I'm aware that Social Security above a certain income level is taxable (of which I disapprove), but I've never heard of any prohibition on recipients earning additional income.

That would be insane if true.

She fears that out of all the people they offer jobs to and turn them down, around 50 percent of those people turned the job down simply so they can continue to receive their unemployment benefits.

They can report this to the Department of Economic Security. They have the person's name, address and probably a social security number. It is a VIOLATION of the terms and conditions of collected UI, at least in Missouri it is.

Yes, he does receive SS. He just actually wants to work. Fortunately, he doesn't "have" to.

I applied for many positions but there was one particular position (described above) about which I was incensed. The message I got was that Work-Study is also an affirmative action jobs program giving advantages to people with the "right" (in this case, either poor or able to game the system) parents.

The rules have changed over the years, not sure the exact amounts and ages but you can work and draw SS.

My mom turned 75 last month, she has always worked, I remember her being rather incensed at the fact that she could only earn a certain amount at certain ages.
When mom gets riled up about something, trust me, I remember what its about.
