Totally idiotic nannyism. Far better to just let people know what the owners of the chain stand for, and then decide if they personally would support such a thing. Let Chick-fil-a lose money if they want to try to make it in a hostile marketplace.
Looks like Chick-Fil-A has decided to put its wallet before its principles.
Statement from Chick-Fil-A, after it's President's proud statement of his and the company's bigotry:
"In last month’s radio interview on The Ken Coleman Show, [President Dan] Cathy stated in no uncertain terms where he stands on the issue of gay marriage. ‘I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about,' he said at the time."
Corporate statement on Thursday after news coverage of Cathy's comment:
"The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.
Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family.
Our mission is simple: to serve great food, provide genuine hospitality and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A."
If this family that owns Chick-Fil-A really believes that homosexuality is wrong, then they are turning on their values for the sake of monetary profit. Corporate Judas.

What????
You obviously know NOTHING about Christianity!!!
What exactly did he say that contradicted his beliefs???? What??
Did he say he supports gay marriage??
Respecting everyone?? Is that it??? See.... that's what real tolerance is!!! Being able to still show respect for a person and still disagree with them!!
I can still shake your hand and give you help you even if I disagree with your lifestyle!!
Jesus told the woman in adultery....go and sin no more. He treated her with kindness but did not affirm her lifestyle!!
They can serve chicken sandwiches (AND HAVE ALEADY DONE SO) to homosexuals and still not agree with homosexual marriage.

People have a right to be against homosexuality. What people like you want is forced group think. While I personally don't mind if gays get married, I believe in the right of Americans to have a diverse set of political and social beliefs. I think the food at Chick-Fil-A is great and I'm sure many liberals also feel the same way.
It often does in the case of homosexuality. And even among those practicing "tolerance" of homosexuality, it equals judgment, which is more than clearly exemplified by Dan Cathy and many other pseudo-Christians:
‘Well, guilty as charged,’ Cathy responded when asked about Chick-fil-A’s backing of ‘traditional’ families with a husband and wife. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives,” Cathy said."
"A report from LGBT advocacy group Equality Matters concluded that Chick-fil-A donated more than $3 million between 2003 and 2009 to Christian groups that oppose homosexuality. In 2010 alone, the company gave nearly $2 million to such causes, according to the report."
All this equals J.U.D.G.M.E.N.T. and that is something that Dan Cathy and many other pseudo-Chrisitians will have to answer for when it really matters, in front of God.

Personally I have an issue with the mayor even being involved in this. Why not let the people decide? If they don't want it there, they won't go and spend their money. Problem solved.
Unless of course, he's afraid that it might be successful because some people just don't care about the beliefs of the company serving them waffle fries. Can't have that...people supporting the right for a company to have beliefs. Or the right to donate money to organizations who have similar beliefs.
Better implement a law that companies can only donate money to government approved organizations
Exactly!
I'd bet he hasn't denied , nor pulled, any permits for Ben and Jerry's ice cream or Starbucks who both have expressed their political opinions.
Oh wait, they are liberal positions.
