All holidays are invented. Why is this one any more of joke than other holidays? Most of the holidays celebrated in this country are either "Christianized" versions of pagan celebrations, or mindless attempts to justify jingoistic national policies.
Yes, I DO find it quite odd and funny that a miltant can make up a fake holiday and you all cling to it like it has some sort of historical or cultural meaning.
Then don't observe it. What's the big deal? (shrugs shoulders)
It's like Easter. Seems pretty stupid to me. I can't make any sense of it at all. But do i complain about it? No. I just watch the folks line up at the churches with their new Easter suits and laugh my ass off.
Try it sometimes. It'll keep your blood pressure down.
The difference is that Christmas has been celebrated for centuries and it was to represent peoples belief in Jesus Christ. In the 300s no one knew when Christ was born so Constantine declared Dec 25th as Christmas due to it being around the time of the Roman Saturnalia. So many customs from that still survive. Yes, it is representational but for all the right reasons.
Kwanzaa seems more born out of racism than anything. I would hope people would celebrate Kwanzaa as a good thing not as a hate filled Black Panther movement.
I celebrate Christmas for my own reasons and wouldn't tell someone how to celebrate their own holiday.
Most black people dont care about Kwanzaa. And the ones who know what its about still dont care about it, their to busy chasing white women to care about racial solidarity.
Does anybody know anybody who really celebrates this though? I like the idea behind the holiday, but I have never met a black family that actually makes it a part of their traditions.
