"Why let a good crisis go to waste." I think that's the quote.
Why would they do that? The republicans are the ones using the payroll extention as a bargaining chip to get what they want.

All of these steps would be inherent in letting the Bush tax cuts expire--because ALL of these things were in the Bush tax cuts.

Are you saying raise rates more on the poor and middle class than the highest brackets?

Nope. The poster is simply saying let ALL the Bush tax cuts expire.

That wasn't my question.

The only thing that could possibly be more small-minded than a one year SS tax cut is a two month SS tax cut.

How 'bout we actually pay for the amount of government and benefits that we want, instead of stiffing our grandchildren, for a change?
"stiffing our grandchildren" ?? Really? We are the grandchildren that got stiffed!! The people retiring over the next 10, 20, 30 years got shafted in the Social Security ponzi scheme. The historical SS tax rate over the last 74 years is 4% + 4% [employer]. There should be no reason that we are paying 6.2% plus another 6.2% payed by our employers on our behalf. We are overpaying 4.4% of our salaries into this program. Someone making $50,000 is overpaying by $2,200 -- someone making $100,000 is overpaying $4,400.

What we should do is raise the Social Security income cap to no max and reduce everyone's rates to 4% on both sides, PERMANENTLY. That would be the fair thing to do. Any shortfalls come out of the general fund.

The Left = those of you (yes you) who believe its GOP ignorance to fight a worthless two month extension. You've been hoodwinked again, it appears.

You may call it irony and that's fine, but that is nothing compared to the tremendous hypocrisy of the GOP who have always believed in tax cuts to reduce the size of the government to get the economy going again.

The Democrats wanted a full year of payroll tax cut but that was shot down so the Senate had to compromise to reach a two month extension. Now Boehner wants to shoot that down because he says he wants a full year of payroll tax extension.

I'm not sure why the Left feel a two-month extension is a win for the American people.

It's not a win, it's called compromise after the GOP shot down the full year extension of the payroll tax cut. And now the House GOP want to shoot down THAT compromise.

Guess someboy forgot to tell the GOP-controlled HR. Even veteran Republicans are trying to understand Speaker Boehner's sudden about-face on the Payroll Tax Cut Extension/Keystone Pipeline deal that just passed the Senate 89-10.

Senate, House on collision course over payroll tax cut extension - The Washington Post

Best guess: Boehner is feeling the TP pitchforks in his back again. They never liked the middle-class tax cut to begin with- less for their corporate masters!!!

Besides, why hand Obama a win, any win, on the eve of his SOTU speech? Whadya wanna do, give people the impression he's a leader or something? Or that government is working?

Can't have that!!

The problem is that Boehner isn't a good Speaker. In fact, he's weak and indecisive. Between him and the Majority Leader, they can't even keep their own party corralled, let alone the whole House. He makes deals, compromises, discusses and the House cuts his legs right out from under him. They've done it consistently since he was elected Speaker.

Think what you will of her, but Nancy Pelosi never had these kinds of problems. She knew how to bend the House to her will.

The GOP would be wise to pick a REAL leader to run the House, but that's not going to happen. The real powers in the GOP are happy with a weak Speaker because don't want their party to hand Obama any kind of victory before the next elections. Their stated goal is to make him a one-term President, no matter how much damage they have to do to the country along the way and they're sticking to that goal. Boehner is the perfect fall guy for them.
