I don't think it has anything to do with being a minority. I think poor people with skewed values toward presenting an appearance of wealth, or affluence have an entitlement mentality, in addition to those who have had it reinforced within their socio-cultural framework that they are owed something from the government because of having been taken advantage of historically, socially, politically, or economically.
I also think that American society breeds people to have an entitlement mentality because we're the land of plenty and everything we see is mass marketed toward aspiring to affluence (or pretending so) and people most vulnerable to that type of marketing are the least economically solid in our society. They can be of any ethnicity "black", "white", "latino", "asian", "middle eastern".
From my experiences, Muslims have a slight entitlement mentality, and that's coming from someone who went to school in which at least 25 per cent of the school was Muslim.
I think it's a bit more complex with muslims because they differ the most from the native population because of their religion. And when people bend over backwards to accomodate their beliefs, in a way, it almost discourages assimilation into North American culture. I think it's really important to assert basic western values when dealing with Muslims otherwise the same level of intolerance that they fled from will continue to exist within the community.
