Wow. Another random act of journalism.

PolitiFact | Lie of the Year 2011: 'Republicans voted to end Medicare'

Quote:
PolitiFact debunked the Medicare charge in nine separate fact-checks rated False or Pants on Fire, most often in attacks leveled against Republican House members.

Now, PolitiFact has chosen the Democrats’ claim as the 2011 Lie of the Year.

Other independent fact-checkers also said the claim was false.
Doesn't stop the dems/Left from repeating the LIE and trying to scare old people, which is straight out of their well-worn playbook.

Politifact is really losing their credibility on this one. The vote was to change Medicare from a government-run health insurance program to a privatized one. This is, as Politifact states, a very dramatic change in what Medicare is.

Reasonable and honest people can disagree about whether the plan was fundamental, dramatic change to Medicare, or whether it would be more accurately described as ending Medicare and replacing it with a different program with the same name. The issue is not an objective falsehood, it is a subjective interpretation, and thus it is not deserving of "Lie of the Year."

The Government is going to kill grandma talk.

Could have sworn some called politifact a "liberal source" earlier in the year.

It was a downright lie. If you replace something with something else, is it being honest to just say that the program is ending without explaining that it will still cover people? They were touting this to try and say that the program was ending and that NOBODY would be covered anymore. THAT IS THE LIE!

The HC law will kill old people if they have the choice to. Younger people will get the coverage before an old person will. That's where the death panels come in. Someone is going to have to decide who gets treatment and who doesn't. You can't cover every single person for every single issue.

So much for politifact being factual. The system under the Ryan plan would have transformed medicare from the current system to a voucher system with a rationing of care after a certain price point. It effectively would have eliminated medicare as we know it.

Actually, the statement that Ryan and the Republicans planned to kill Medicare is 100% accurate. Unfortunately, Politifact caved to political astroturf pressure ginned up by Ryan and other right-wingers. In so doing, Politifact has surrendered all its credibility to side with the extreme right.

The biggest cut to date to medicare was done via Obamacare. 500 billion dollars were cut from the budget.
