the problem with the Dem party is they have gone so far the other direction from where they once were.
But most Dems are a loyal lot and will go down with the ship.
They are the 55+ group that most will not say that their party is now what it is. Most truly believe that they are still for the less fortunate and that is not the case.
My Uncles were iron workers you cannot even begin to tell them that there are things wrong with the unions of today. They won't hear it.
I have teamsters in my family the same thing.
Frankly the Dems do not deserve such loyalty as far as I am concerned not anymore.
When things do not go their way they revert to toddler like behavior. The Reps these days are not far behind.
But at what cost. The working man cannot afford to pay more taxes.
But if Oklahoma is like other states the working man in towns big and small is going to the polls all the time to vote higher sales taxes upon himself to improve upon the public good, such as to build new jails, police stations, huge arenas and stadiums, libraries, better schools, improved streets and so forth.
And when taxes are higher than other places, you're likely to find the standard of living and public services are also higher.
As a Democrat, I would like to see more of the Iron Range Democrats, near Duluth in northern Minn.. These are the sorts that drive shoddy pick-ups with Kerry stickers. They like guns, and not abortion. But they aren't willing to be sacrficed, they have (or had) good jobs and good checks. I don't think the middle ground is meeting half-way, I think middle ground is a social conservative and an economic liberal. That sort of coalition could include urban liberals, rural farmers, union men, evangelicals, et. cetera. It would take America far.
Got it. Unions evil. Corporations good. I can’t think of one – not one immoral act by a corporation, nor an unethical one, let alone corruption or other activities that have harmed others. Yep unions bad. Corporations, a blessing from God.

Unions are not evil per say. But there are things that are taking place that may not be best for the worker.

When I read these I have to point out that what it is to be Democrat or Republican has become rather convoluted over the years and has indeed gotten off point. (maybe it has always existed with lesser fan fare)
To point out Minnehahapolitan's term of "Iron Range" democrats remind me to some degree of the souths dixicrats. Yet the primary spokespersons for each respected party tend to be the more liberal or conservative extremes of their parties.
I mean look, Hillary is pretty durn hawkish as are some of the other front runners to a lesser degree and there are some who still think Thompson, Romney or Giuliani are conservative.
If nothing else, we have a mighty fine crop of speech givers this season.

Exactly. The taxes on the rich (for instance, $200,000/yr income and higher) need to be increased to pay for these things. Defining what is considered "rich" (i.e., rich in INCOME) can be easily accomplished using a cutoff such as top 2%, or some other measure close to 2%.
Remember what the top federal income tax bracket a few decades ago?
