Well.. I am sure we are all familiar with the set asides for Women / minority owned firms. We're reviewing a request for proposal from a government entity that requires an applying firm to be 'Certified', gay, lesbian, or transgendered owned.
This is just too damn much. How do you certify a firm is transgendered? Show up in a dress? Do I wear high heels to the pre-bid?
Women owned businesses are also being abused so they can get the "edge" on government contracts.
I was asked once a few years ago if I would be the "owner" of a company in order for them to get to the head of the line and I refused.
Like all federal programs, people will find a way to exploit it.
Doesn't surprise me, it is just the natural progression on how these things go.
I've seen a lot of government "set asides" for contracts.
Best one I ever saw was a post office distribution center where contract went for $1.5 million that I would have been thrilled to get for $400k.
The minority owned firm screwed it up so badly they went bankrupt on the job. So they get this job, it's their very first, and what do the three minority owners do? They put in an invoice for "mobilization" and used the money to purchase three brand new, fully loaded black Cadillac Escalade SUV's.
When I asked "why?" they told me it was important "to look the part". Part of what? Construction is a tough business and if you want to look the part you wear bib overalls and work boots. It ain't glamor.
Then they leased a house, the job site was 600 miles from home, where the "management" could stay. We're talking Kansas City, Missouri for $8,000/month for a year. Usually what you do is rent a room at Red Roof Inn or, if the company was feeling fat, maybe the Hampton Inn coming in Sunday night and leaving Friday morning for the trip back home.
I got paid to come in and clean the job up. Finish it. What little they had done I could have done for $200k while they'd burned through nearly the entire $1.5 million. What they did do was all wrong... a huge mess.
For six months these clowns had lots of parties. They'd be the toast of BET if they showed up. Their weekend parties are still legendary in the industry.
No way of getting back at them either, the federal government waived the requirement for a payment and performance bond which I can tell you is a 100% standard for any white owned company.
Wow , no bond? Ive never bid a fed funded job that didnt require a bond.
Go do a google. Minority owned and women owned businesses get special treatment from states/fed regarding bonds and in many times the bond is "waived" so they can get a foot in the door.
THESE are the "special rights" that gays are after.
Do a good job, make a good product and people will buy your product or service. Regardless of your sexual tendencies, race or gender.
This is exactly why people get agitated.
