so it's either
a. cut taxes
b. cut the deficit
c. cut Medicare & Military & Social Security

pick one.

actually, I would cut all 3, plus fire 95% of all goverment employees. mind you I dont believe in no goverment, just very limited goverment.

you do know that it was our founding fathers that a standing army was one of the worst things for liberty. we are starting to see that now.

Some real numbers
yes the media wants to say that 160 million americans will lose $1000 a yr.
Not exactly true
According to the dept of labor statistics there are 101.4 million full time workers not 160 million
They have an average weekly pay of $753. The proposed extension means $15.06 per week.
It is also only for 2 months $15.06 x 8 = $120.48
Thats what not passing the dem plan will cost the american worker .
It will cost SS . a little over $1.5 billion, is it worth it?

Usual Weekly Earnings Summary

Remember, the Bush tax cuts were a disaster, likewise, I expect liberals to admit that the payroll tax cuts were a disaster, praise the Republicans and allow them to rise.

Well, this board has labeled me a "liberal" many times and I don't identify with the raging right wingers I see here often, so I guess I have to accept that label here BUT...I agree. I'm against the payroll tax reduction and was from Day 1. Thought it was the stupidest idea EVER.

I never did like the Bush tax cuts either. Why give tax cuts like that when your financial house was finally in some sort of order?

That is correct, if they were at all consistent. Thier zeal to perpetuate a "payroll tax cut" is just accelerating the demise of medicare and social security, which they claim they want.

If the libs really want medicare and social security to go on, why not a payroll tax increase, as VTHokieFan has suggested? That would only make sense.

because the payroll tax is capped to a certain income. i don't think we should increase a tax that disproportionately hits the middle class, especially not when we just renewed a big tax cut that went mainly toward the wealthy.

................... and the payment through social security and medicare is capped as well. One recieves far less through social security than what was paid in if you are at a higher income level.

Those of higher income still pay higher amounts in the payroll tax. It is just another tax, as most of us will never see a dime for this "benefit", as means testing will be instituted.

If these programs are so great, why do the throngs even need us evil "rich" to participate? Perhaps you would be more happy if we were given the option to pull out?

I believe Income Taxes should be eliminated on any income from all sources below the 90th percentile. The tax rates on the top 10% should be set to pay for maintaining the country they own without borrowing for operating expenses. The military is part of operating expenses.

So in other words you want a free ride. No surprise there as in another post you identified yourself as a financial socialist.

Do you have a poster of a naked bernie sanders on the ceiling above your bed?

So why cap it at $106,000? Why not $5,000 , or $5,000,000?

Right, and someone making $80k and falling under the cap is in the same boat. Why should they be taxed differently than someone making $125k or $500k or $50 million/year ?

Who said the programs were great?

All I know is that they are popular among both parties.

It's just not realistic. If people like me had the option of "pulling out" of the payroll tax and SS, the current funding would dry up and the system would immediately collapse. Then what?
