Yes everything is always "the libs" fault , Even though it's not a federal mandate and it's up to the states to enact their own laws, which many hard right ones also have smoking bans
Most cons ain't much better either. They're two sides of the same coin.
The liberal will say you can't smoke, the conservative will say you can't marry someone of the same sex. The lib will tell you what to eat, the con will tell you what to worship.
Michigan and Wisconsin have banned smoking in hotels. This happened last year. Jennifer Granholm is an anti-freedom slob and a left wing zealot.
*******s are control freaks.
Gotta wonder what's next after there are no more "things smoking" to conquer.

But they don't see that as hypocritical. They see that as your "right" (because they approve and permit it).

What, and let people exercise their freedom of choice?

Bingo!! And that's why I'm a Libertarian, LOL.

Ummmm, I know... telling consenting adults who they can marry! Oh wait, the repugs already thought of that one.
Technically they would be correct as the highest percentage of those that do smoke are of low education and income.
I don't know if I buy that, considering how many people I've encountered from ALL walks of life who smoke. As for myself, I'm about as far from "low class" as one can get - having grown up in an upper-class suburban (San Francisco) Jewish household, and having a Master's Degree and professional academic-related job. And guess who I'm always smoking with on my work breaks? The Sheriffs and District Attorneys from the county buildings next door. I dare you to call them uneducated and low-class, LOL.
I'm allergic to perfume, flowers, and most air-fresheners and soaps/detergents. But that's my issue, and I'd never expect a hotel to cater to my personal allergies! I'll just take a pill if it gets bad, bring my own pillow (to avoid having my nose on their detergent) and soaps, or choose a different hotel if their scents are particularly bad... for example I avoid the MGM Grand in Vegas now, since they pump a VERY strong air-freshener throughout their air ducts. Ironically, they do that to cover the smokey smell from the casino.
Furthermore, some people are allergic to dogs & cats, yet many hotels allow pets with a cleaning deposit. So if smoking bothers you, find a non-smoking hotel (they exist everywhere these days), or specifically demand a non-smoking room... same goes for people allergic to pets, however there's no option for people with my allergies. Oh well, 'tis life. If I were the type who couldn't handle dealing with this stuff, I'd probably avoid traveling or get an RV instead. Guess you vehement anti-smoking folks don't travel to Reno, Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Europe or Asia - huh?
P.S. I'm a liberal AND a smoker, so clearly we're not all trying to ban smoking... although I'm more of a Libertarian than Democrat, which might negate the original point.
unfortunately not everything that exacerbates an asthmatics condition can be eliminated, though many places are trying. for instance the place where i have my procrit shots has essentially banned the use of deodorants, perfumes, and other things that people are allergic to.
you might let what ever hotels you stay at know that some of their air fresheners, laundry soaps, etc. tend to exacerbate allergies and asthma, and offer suggestions of products that are neutral that do the same thing just as effectively. talk to the front desk manager about this. if they get enough people talking about the problems, they will change the products they use.

I am not familiar with the hotel/motel industry, but if I know anything, I know there are regualtions for them. It is not that much of a hardship for smokers to smoke outside! This "choice" thing is nonsense. What if there are no non-smoking rooms available for 100 miles?
kat, i cant rep you again, but nice post.

not really. in fact there are fewer smokers these days, and more regulations against smoking. there is no way for any hotel in the US to avoid having to offer a certain percentage of their rooms as non smoking rooms, and those that have the minimum percentage tend to lose business.

actually the hotel industry has been pushing more non smoking rooms since the late 70s, before any regulations were put in place, because many of their guests wanted them. the government is just stepping in as a johnny come lately and requiring a certain percentage of hotel rooms be non smoking.
and by the way, while i am a non smoker myself, my mother smokes, as does a friend of mine, and i have no issues with them, or other people, smoking.
There's just no point in arguing with these anti smoking tyrants. They're right, smoking is bad, end of story, you must conform. Hypocrites.
