Maher's comments on Scrooge in a Christmas Carol were just for quick laughs without putting much thought into it. So as usual he made a few mean spirited comments but did little to delve into the subject or present it fairly.

Scrooge was probably more of a liberal than he was a conservative. Scrooge was heartless and greedy but that crosses across both political spectrums. Pelosi is as greedy as they come and we have John
Corzine who is an unscrupulous business man.
Scrooge felt that the social programs of his day were best suited to deal with the poor and destitute. How many liberals support social programs but do nothing else for charity? Scrooge was against celebrating Christmas and was mostly anti religion. That's definitely more liberal than conservative. Scrooge spoke of " decreasing the surplus population" and "if someone was apt to die they had better do it". Euthanasia and abortion sound familiar? Again, more liberal than anything. He was against marriage. Liberal more than conservative.
Maher's one of the more hateful people in the media.David Letterman, Ed Schultz, Gary Trudeau, Michael Moore, Keith Olbermann( sortof still in the media, a little) are up there with him.

Bill Maher along with Michael Moore are especially hated by the Right because his truths hurt. Limbaugh, Beck and the rest are easily discarded as loons by Lefties.

BTW, Bill Maher (to include his writers) is both a comedian AND a political force. He's a bit of a cultural force too scaring alot of people off religion.

He has no power. He's not involved in the process. He's a guy with a cable show. His whole schtick is having a loud mouth and being (somewhat) controversial.

When he starts affecting the way masses of people vote and our lawmakers legislate I'll start paying attention.

Um, didn't Maher's guy win the last election? And Maher's guy is almost a shoo in for the next one as well.

If Maher spoke about minorities, or gays or any other group they way he talks about Conservatives and Christians, he would be off the air in minutes. Look how fast Imus was booted off the radio for his insensitive comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team. Maher says equally or even more insulting things and not only gets away with it, he's applauded by Liberals for his wit and courage to speak the 'truth'.

Do you think Maher influences a SIGNIFICANT number of Americans when they vote? Does Joe Blow Average American care what Maher thinks?

I'm not talking about endorsing a candidate. I'm talking about political POWER. When Barack Obama (or any other candidate) is pleading for Maher's endorsement, please.... let me know. Seriously.

Do you think Maher has an influence on what Main Street America thinks? That's power. There's a big difference between actual power and having a camera in front of you to blither on about your opinions. Maher blithers and, from what I've observed, most people could care less. The man couldn't even make it with ratings high enough to keep a network show. Right now the only people who can even see him have to pay for that cable channel. I'm not thinking that makes him a player on the national scene or a political force.

He's an entertainer. As long as people find him entertaining people will pay attention. Is every person you pay attention to able to affect masses of people to vote? I pay attention to dozens of bands, comedians, actors, writers, etc.. who have little to no impact on politics. Why? Because they entertain me and bring a little bit of joy to my life. Not everything is politics in my life.

Michael Moore wouldn't know the truth if he ate it.

His comments say more about those who watch him than him.

Especially his comments about Tim Tebow.

The 1st amendment allows free speech. No matter how vile that free speech is.

BTW....have you noticed that there hasn't been one conservative lawmaker calling for him to be fired? Unlike the throngs of lefties that go after conservative talk hosts when they say something that the left feels in inappropriate?

What leftist lawmaker has called for firing a conservative comedian?
