Spokane city and county government officials have a tri-state contract to receive all sexually deviant convicts from Idaho, Oregon and Montana who are fresh outta prison so they can live here in Spokane instead of where ever they lived before prison..... I vote for these government officials to have to have one sex offender as their neighbor for the rest of their lives....

what is their motive you ask? MONEY federal government helps out in the form of grants just for this purpose...to house them, to help them find a job, to pay for their "treatment" and provide enough supervision of them by corrections officers, and mentors or otherwise known as social workers....and it is all in the name of creating jobs for over educated white people who like to be told what to believe, so they dont have to think at all.....no offense...we all have a job to do right?

I know it is not very popular and can be really scary to have pedophiles or other criminals live near you but they have to live somewhere and if they don't, or can't get a job or something like that what are we supposed to do? Put them out on the street and let them die? I think that would be very evil if we make people who went to prison, even if they committed pedophilia, to have to live out on the street.

I actually am glad that the town got grants to house those people because most people would always just look after themselves, I know I would, and if I was apart of an HOA or owned an apartment I would if it were legally allowed to, bar people with criminal convictions from living in my apartments. If I owned a company, I would, if legally were able to, bar people with criminal convictions from working at my company. I would do this because I want to be safe.

However, that is why this type of government action is a 'necessary' evil. No one in their right mind would want to live next to a convicted pedophile if they choose to but it would be a greater evil if the government basically forced these people to live as homeless people because no person will ever want to give them jobs or housing. I know it isn't nice but the government and private citizens still need to think about taking care of people like pedophiles in the like because they're still people.

They should just make sure these pedophiles are still kept under watch somehow so they don't victimize children.

You do know a lot of people get labeled as "sex offenders" for things other than rape or sexual assault?

Sex laws: Unjust and ineffective | The Economist

Illiberal politics: America's unjust sex laws | The Economist

I think rapists and child molesters ought to rot in jail for life, but someone who's going around flashing people or someone pissing in the bushes or a 17 year old who had sex with his 15 year old girlfriend? They either need help (flasher) or are just young and dumb (the latter two scenarios).

e: I also think that if a person is dangerous enough to require them to be on registries and whatnot then they ought to still be in prison, no? Should we not have manslaughter registries and murder registries? I'm a lot more worried about someone stabbing me to death than I am about someone whizzing in my petunias.

e2: Also, cute attempt at playing the race card near the end of your post, OP.

Sounds like a weird idea. What keeps them from returning wherever they came from? If they are out of jail, they can go anywhere, can't they?

Basically, the problem is not only about sex offenders, but about the large number of offenders in US jails. Would you prefer to have a killer or arsonist in your neighborhood? There are just too many criminals and sooner or later most of them will get out of jail again. Then what? As someone rightly said, they have to live somewhere, they won't do society the favor of moving to the desert

It is quite easy to be labeled a sex offender as it is such a delicate subject, so many people think better safe than sorry, even if it ruins someone's life. The slightest accusation of a child can be enough to destroy your reputation and even get you sentenced.

I think prisons should be for reforming bad behavior more than punishing.
Some robbers rob a lot of people before they are ever caught. Do you think that being caught just once after 100 free and clear robberies will really discourage a lot of them?

Pedophiles will eventually have opportunities to re-offend and since many commit about 100 of these offenses before they are caught and since this is sexual behavior, what chance do we have of reforming them?

Next to none.

If they cannot be reformed, they should stay incarcerated. If you know a dog is wild and cannot be tamed, do you release it among the public?

Yeah, they are people. I think most sexually aggressive crime is something a person is born with, or it starts at such an early age that it cannot be gotten rid of.

Maybe put them on some isolated island to start their own adult community - anything, almost, except do not release them anywhere where they could possibly have access to children.

Default Sex Offender

A sex offender is exactly what it says-SEX OFFENDER. The law doesn't lightly give them this title. Whatever the level of offense-it was sexual - an usually involves small children. Obviously those of you who posted comments defending sex offenders and making light of their offenses, have never experienced the rath of a sex offender! I have and I know others who have. DO I WANT THEM LIVING NEXT TO ME OR MY FAMILY-absolutely not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care how crowded the jails are-let the sex offenders, murderers, etc., sleep 5 in a cage where they belong. Wake up America!

It does so it can include more and more people under that category. Never heard of "mission creep". In some states it includes gay men who were arrested for breaking sodomy laws with adults prior to Lawrence vs. Texas overturning sodomy laws. Not to mention it includes flashers. Sex offender registries do not just contain violent rapists and pedophiles. If they were confined to those groups I would not have a problem with them. However they encompass a wide variety of offenders many if not most of whom pose no danger to the community.

Contracting for sex offenders to live in foreclosed homes in subdivisions with heavy foreclosures is better than leaving those homes abandoned.

The link between pornography and sex crimes

The porn addict next door is every bit as dangerous as a registered sex offender.

So then, that would mean that Japan, where pornography is omnipresent and which is probably the world capital of violent porn, is a more dangerous place than Pakistan, where pornography is completely prohibited....

We obviously need a numbering system or something to categorize these things. The sexual crimes of violent rape and pedophilia should be separate from mooners, or seventeen yr old boys who dally with sixteen year old girls, yes and there should be another category for flashers - are flashers seldom reformed?

I have a friend who says he heard that the majority of guys who look at kiddy porn do not molest actual children. I don't know if that is true. I think the 'kiddy porn as a crime' is a crime because it is hard to tell if an image is a real kid or not and viewing this stuff feeds the kiddy porn industry which destroys the lives of children.
