"By signing this defense spending bill, President Obama will go down in history as the president who enshrined indefinite detention without trial in U.S. law," said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch. "In the past, Obama has lauded the importance of being on the right side of history, but today he is definitely on the wrong side."

This thread should be in the regular politics section. However, it should be pointed out that only Ron Paul has spoken of the dangers of this act. Obama and the Neo-con Republican candidates are all in favor of STRENGTHENING laws like the Patriot Act and I'm sure, Bachman and Santorum voted in FAVOR of the NDAA. If so it is pretty clear they are just blowing smoke in the debates when they talk about respecting and going back to the Constitution. Just like when Obama was running, it sounds good but take it for what it is: JUST TALK. They have NO INTENSION of any sort of follow up if they were by chance elected. They are NEO-CONS through and through as are Gingrich and Romney and Huntsman.

Rep. Paul says defense bill assures

“The Fifth Amendment is about much more than the right to remain silent in the face of government questioning,” Paul continued. “It contains very basic and very critical stipulations about the due process of law. The government cannot imprison a person for no reason and with no evidence presented and without access to legal council. The danger of the NDAA is its alarmingly vague, undefined criteria for who can be indefinitely detained by the U.S. government without trial.”

Montanans Launch Recall of Senators Who Approved NDAA Military Detention. Merry Christmas, US Senate - Salem-News.Com

Good for Montana! That is what EVERY STATE should do. I wish SC would do it to Lindsay Graham. He and Sen John McCain where two of the authors of it.

I wonder how many City-data posters who voted for McCain know that he is such a PROPONENT of this disgusting unconscionable (for a "free society") law.

Also wasn't the vote 93 to 7?

Yup, 93-7 in the Senate, what a joke. As I said in other posts, it's stuff like this OWS is 'anti', not all the crap you see some (seems like a lot) of CD posters using in slandering attempts to cut them down, and try to belittle the movement.

And both sides passed this, on scary **** like this, it's even scarier how efficient both sides work together. I wish people would wake up, and stop being so polarized in their political views.
