Credit unions are great except for the large number of fees they stick you with.

Face it...we are stuck with big banks whether you like them or not.

They provide important services, believe it or not.

Next time they are in trouble write your democratic AND republican congressvermin and TELL THEM NOT TO BAIL THEM OUT!!

I've been with credit unions for near 20 years now. I don't get hit with fees for doing my normal banking. Yes there are fees for requesting services over and above and it's fair IMO because you are asking for extra stuff.

Never paid an ATM fee, never paid a checking account fee. Commercial banks..that's another story and they have been charging fees for years.

Not in my experience.

I have used both credit unions and banks. In every case the credit union fees were comparable and often cheaper than the banks. I stopped using banks 4 years ago because their fees were getting too high.

I suggest to everyone I know to take their money out of the banks and use credit unions instead.

My credit union hasn't charged me a fee in 20 years for anything. I think the OP is mixed up. It's banks that charge at every turn... at least here in Texas. Other states may be different?

But if you want to stay with a bank at least go with a local community bank. The big banks are run by crooks.

I have two accounts.. My personal account is with a credit union and like the others, I don't pay the big bank fees. Then I have my business account. Credit unions are not allowed to have buisness accounts and so the banks are required to conduct buisness.. The small banks don't have the national access that I need to conduct my business.. There is a need for both, but if you only have a personal account, I urge you to use a local credit union.

Interesting. Why aren't they allowed to have business accounts?

I really don't know, but they can't.. I've wanted to switch for years, but it's always the same answer.

What are these so called fees that CUs hit you with? I don't get any fees for anything. I can even use ATMs at 7-11s and other CUs for fee free ATM withdraws. My CU also gives out lower interest student, mortgage, car, and personal loans than almost every major bank.

Hmm. What state do you live in? The restriction might be unique to your state or area.

I looked up my old credit union when I lived in California (currently live in Toronto). Their website says they offer full service business accounts.
