There was a time when terrorist weren't expected to use planes as missles, but bombs in shoes or underwear, make liquid bombs that can bring down planes etc. If that 3 minute search is so horrible, don't fly.
If we follow your "logic" and just continue to allow these egregious and outrageous acts by the TSA, in a few years we'll all go through checkout lines naked and subjected to body cavity searches just because terrorists might do X.

Sorry - not buying it, not going to let it happen. The people of this country need to remind the government that they work for us, not the other way around.

I'm starting to think that some of you are just angry about the whole concept. But, that's OK.
Right on! People want to be safe but they dont want to have to give up anything in order to be safe. If they were on a plane that had an incident, they would immediately cry out that the TSA wasn't thorough enough. So delusional.

I'm glad the TSA is protecting us from five year old white girls because god knows they've blown up a lot of planes and buildings. And let's not forget the threat posed by cupcakes and cake!

You laugh and it really shows your ignorance and naivity. Think about it folks. If I am a 30 something guy whos planning on blowing up a plane, am I going to be the one carrying my weapon of choice? Or am I going to be clever and find the best way to smuggle this weapon and remain undetected.....perhaps on an elderly women in a wheelchair, because....after all, no one would ever suspect such a person of having a weapon.....right?

These statistics, who comes up with them and on what criteria? They are useless, and I dont live my life based on numbers. I live it in the cold harsh reality it is. Say you are that "one"..... if you are is that "thirty million" gonna help you any? Will you still take comfort in that moment, that you only had a 1:30,000,000 chance of this happening to you?

Buying the defense of theft as "it's just a few bad apples" is the icing on the cake.
But you were all good with it when was untrained unchecked private workers doing all the above..Makes sense.

What egregious acts? A pat down? As far your slippery slope to body cavity searches, ahh no..

Apparently, a TSA workeer confiscated a cup cake.

To all those who complain....why exactly are you complaining that they are doing a good and thorough job? You act as if an 85 year old women could not be a terrorist or that an adult terrorist would never hide a weapon on a child? Like a terrorist absolutely could not hide a chemical agent in a cup cake or other pastry.

If all this complaining leads to a draw back on how the TSA operates, it will lead to them being more lax and create a weakness amongst airport security. Think about it, if you were one of these terrorists, where would you hide a weapon? Hmmmmm..... they will never suspect a child or an elderly women would be concealing any weapons, so lets try that!
It isn't about TSA agents doing a thorough job, but about those who supervise and instruct them being stupid. TSA agents aren't "very bright" to begin with and are just following their superiors instructions like robots.
What's needed is less robots, more thinking humans and less ass covering. Much of what they do is intended to cover the behinds of management, just in case.
The approach should be pro-active, intelligent and less tedious. When you enter JFK airport in NY, you feel like a cow, part of a cattle drive in old westerns. No, there is no need to confiscate nail clippers and pacifiers.

If I really need to spell out the many and documented cases of TSA abuse of power and other monkey business then this is a waste of time. You want to live with blinders on and continue to watch our civil liberties get tossed out then go for it, I'm not one of the sheeple and I still believe in due process.

We'll see how your tune changes when you hear the glove snapping and the TSA agent with the toy badge is asking you to bend over.

I don't live with blinders, I fly all the time without any problem. I reside here in reality and I plainly expect a search prior to boarding a plane. I prepare myself appropriately and it goes smoothly. It's usually over in about 3 minutes and I'm on my way..

Again, when people like yourself and others start talking about rectums and bending over, I realize that you will be irrational about ANYTHING the government is involved in (except the military).

Ah but it's more than the physical search. The BDOs are watching you so don't do anything funny. Act calm, cool and collective because Big Brother is watching you literally and will pull you off for "special screening" if they think you're acting suspiciously. Might take you another 3 minutes besides your patdown screening.

Carmel on the Case - TSA Felons

TSA does hire convicted criminals. I eagerly await the TSA supporters' response, especially the one who claimed they don't.

The same people crying foul over Obama signing a Bill he vowed to veto are the ones defending blatant violations of the Fourth Amendment.

Again, I'm not opposed to security. There is not a single shred of evidence that we are any safer today than we were before 9/11. We caught contraband and missed contraband before and after 9/11. Metal detectors don't bother me. I don't really care about the scanners. I care about the stupidity of a system that costs billions in direct and indirect dollars that offers no incremental safety. I find it offensive that our rights are eroding away in the name of "security".
