Is there no end to the idiocy of NYC LE? Do they not know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys?

So here is another case of a good guy asking a cop for help and getting arrested. I guess everyone needs to have a lawyer on retainer before visiting NYC.

Ryan Jerome was enjoying his first trip to New York City on business when the former Marine Corps gunner walked up to a security officer at the Empire State Building and asked where he should check his gun.
That was when Jerome’s nightmare began. The security officer called police and Jerome spent the next two days in jail.
The 28-year-old with no criminal history now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison. If convicted, his sentence could be as high as fifteen years.
Jerome has a valid concealed carry permit in Indiana and visited New York believing that it was legal to bring his firearm. He was traveling with $15,000 worth of jewelry that he planned to sell.
The online gun-law information Jerome read was inaccurate, however, and his late September arrest initiated what may become a protracted criminal saga.

this is why gun owners NEED to check the laws in other states by CALLING the law enforcement in those states, and not rely on what some website tells them. he may have had a concealed carry permit in indiana, and indiana being a shall issue state only means that if a person has no criminal record, passes a concealed carry class, and qualifies on the range, they will get their permits. new york is a MAY issue state which means that person can go through everything and still NOT get their ccw permit. and chances are that there is no reciprocity agreement between indiana and new york regarding concealed carry permits. if the guy had contacted new york law enforcement, he could have applied for a temporary permit that would have allowed him to carry concealed, IF new york choose to issue him one.

The guy is an idiot for not checking with the state of NY and NYC on their gun laws before taking his gun into the state.

Not to defend NYC's gun laws but they're pretty damn up-front about them. Look what happened to poor Plaxico.

Bummer hopefully it won't be prison time. Think a fine would be a better answer, no one was harmed.

Guess this goes along the same line as medical marijuana card, it's not good in every state.

It's a mandatory 3 year sentence I believe, no exceptions.

Was he visiting NYC or trying to hawk $15k of jewelry? I smell slime.. Either way, it's interesting how conservatives who are always gaggling about states rights all of a sudden hate states rights when what the state does doesn't suit them.

This is a f'ing US MARINE! Black Rappers can get off scot free with gun violations but they are threatening to put this guy in jail for 3 years? Screw the NY gun laws! Give this guy a break! America is a f'ing joke nowadays. We should split up into three different countries. Libertarians, republicans, and democrats. All you morons on the left and right can go f'k off to your own little socialist and corporate utopias.
