It makes it sound as though someone decided to partake in a new activity or underground club scene.

homosexuality is a TRAIT (either genetic or caused by ANDROGENS in the WOMB0

it is a FACT that being gay is NOT a choice for at least MANY or MOST of us and it is also a FACT that it is not a lifestyle.

you cat ask the source (gay people) to discover this, so it's especially irritating when people think that these two issues are debatable when they're facts.

Also, calling being gay is lifestyle is really angering too considering all that many of us have been through.

Imagine being a twelve year old boy starting puberty in middle school and being attracted and having CRUSHES on other boys and KNOWING that inside you're very different than your friends and the other guys.
this is ALREADY a hard period of your life just being that age to begin with.

imagine trying to find a solid and confident sense of self when there's nobody around that you can fully identify with.

imagine being a few years older and having to finally come to terms with the fact that you're gay and that you just aren't attracted to women in any way.

imagine knowing that you'd have to tell your family and friends this at some point and fearing how they may react

imagine thinking that there's something wrong with you from a religious point of view (especially if you grow up belonging to the church) and you live in a rural community that's very religious.

imagine knowing that all these other people that you know BELIEVE that EXISTING they way that you were created is a sin.

after going through all this it's so ANGERING how some people actually TELL YOU than you CHOSE a GAY LIFESTYLE.

what's even more angering is that what if you lived a healthier and less promiscuous LIFESTYLE than these people that look DOWN ON YOU? and they think that YOU are a sexual sinner and they think that THEY should be able to debate being gay and YOUR potential relationship and that you shouldn't be able to become a pastor, and that you're dangerous around children etc...

how would you feel?

Seriously? All the injustices the gay community already faces and you're going to throw a tantrum over word choice? Tackle the important things first and then you can deal with the P.C. bullcrap.

You can't control what other people say. I just look at the use of the word "lifestyle" as a sign of ignorance and hostility toward homosexuality.

There is no such thing as a "gay lifestyle." It's simply a term used by hateful bigots to pigeonhole and cast all homosexuals as immoral, sinful, deviants who prance around boozing, drugging, fornicating indiscriminately, and molesting children. It's a calculated attack on gay people designed to spread fear and to promote prejudice and bigotry.

It's truly disgusting how sneaky and deceitful the religious-right can be in promoting its discriminatory hate and bigotry (my personal favorite is when they say it's not actually hate to scorn, shame, and abuse people for their homosexuality - but it is instead an expression of their love for homosexuals).

Because you have no idea how or why the term "lifestyle" is a purposely used by knuckle dragging social conservatives to send the message that being gay is a choice.

It's a subtle slur designed to get the word out that gays are choosing to be sinful, not born that way.

Gay's don't refer to themselves as having a "gay lifestyle" ..you only hear that from Bible thumpers hoping to disparage them for who they are.

I use the term 'gay lifestyle' and it's not a subtle slur or an implication of choice. I think being gay is like being left handed. It's just a convenient term when discussing the homosexual community and whining about it just detracts from FAR more important issues.
