If you download music, movies, or books from file sharing sites without paying for them, you are a thief, as far as I'm concerned.
This is what I don't understand. There are different standards for movies than for books. You can get a book at the library, borrow it for two weeks, and read it for free. You can even sit inside a Barnes & Noble for 8 hours reading books off the shelf, for free, and no one cares. You can buy a movie once and watch it over and over again every day for the rest of your life, for free. You can search songs on YouTube and listen to them for free over and over again. You can even find YouTube mixes with the whole entire works of artists and listen to it completely free. You can go to pandora and listen to days' worth of music by various artists, for free. You can read an entire magazine in the doctor's office for free. Hundreds of patients have probably read that magazine without paying a dime for it.
BUT GOD FORBID YOU HAVE ACCESS TO MOVIES ON WEBSITES THAT PIRATE MOVIES CAUSE THAT IS STEALING!!!!!!11!1!11
If pirating a movie is stealing, then so is borrowing a book from your school library and looking up a song on YouTube and reading the magazine's in the waiting room. Someone already bought that book once. Someone already paid for that artist's CD. People already saw the movie in theaters. The artists made money off of it. They made their living.
If this is really about stealing, then why aren't the standards for "stealing" a little more consistent? Makes you think--is it really about "stealing" or is it about rich people who don't want to get used to being a little less rich? They don't want to just get rich off the first time you enjoy it, but every time.

Putting up a copyrighted material on youtube or "video" site without the copyright holder's permission IS THEFT. It doesn't matter if it's a song, a tv, show, or movie.
SOPA will pass eventually, just not as it's written today.
And regarding the comments about artists who make "millions", do you realize what a tiny minority they are? The vast majority of content creators (musicians, writers, filmmakers, etc.) have very average incomes. They rely on sales of their work in order to make a living, and if they're successful, they employee others. Piracy and illegal downloading not only decreases their incomes, it makes it impossible for them to provide jobs for others.
How often is Joe Average's work pirated? Joe Average is busy playing gigs in bars no one has heard of and selling his CD's for $20 at the end of the show. The movies that get pirated are the ones that make millions in movie theater sales. Seriously, people need to get over themselves. This is about the big shots who want to stay billionaires and not get downgraded to millionaire-hood. It's not about the little guy because no one is going on freemovies.net to watch some random guy who can't even afford to make a professional video to begin with.
All of this is all about the money....I do not agree with SOPA/PIPA or whatever the heck they are because they are for the rich not for the middle class, the lows class, or the poors...

But no one is talking about that. I can still search "Radiohead" on YouTube and get page after page of results of their music. I can also find page after page of nine million people covering a Radiohead song. Why don't people care about that? What is this all really about?

Nobody was screaimng that they couldn't feed their children because of this back then. Yet now all of a sudden it's a huge issue? I don't buy it.

Exactly. This isn't about the moral integrity of not stealing, it's about money. Otherwise people would be just as opposed at the fact that schools regularly lend copyrighted books to their students...for free. Where's the outrage about that?

I have free access to thousands of titles online, that I can read through my electronic braille display right here, right now, without paying a dime--books and material that anyone else would have to go into a bookstore and buy. I can even read porn from my laptop right now if I want!
Aren't I technically "stealing" because I'm not paying for the material I read? Even the paper braille that gets mailed to me is mailed to me for free--guess I'm "stealing" those stamps too!
It's like with trusting any experts. Do you claim to know more about health than your physician?
Of course I know more about my health than my doctor. I'm the one who lives in this body, not him. And, I retain full control over my health care too. Don't you? Or, do you just do and take whatever the doctor tells you to?
