States should have the right to make legal or illegal whatever they want. If a state has a regulation that you don't like, do what Regan said, "Vote with your feet.".

Reagan was a fool for saying that. If voting were to put the power in the hands of individuals, for their freedoms, there would be no need for attempts in the US Constitution to ensure protections against the government.

I have to laugh at the liberals who seem to want to empower the government in all aspects of life but get mad when the government wants power over them. That is the collective mindset though.

Funny, coming from someone (not surprisingly a conservative) who wants the government to control people's personal lives. At least get the title of this thread?

The mindset that went into requiring government, however:

"If men were moral, there would be no need for a government"
- James Madison

Yeah, I would love to see a conservative say that.

Arguably if we had not had states it would have been much more difficult to get rid of slavery. Another good example is laws allowing concealed carry of guns. It started in a few states, especially Florida, and slowly spread across the country until now only one state is left (Illinois) that totally prohibits this. Medical marijuana is yet another example.
Arguably?!?! The majority of the nation, call them states or call them regions, were opposed to slavery and only through a national effort was slavery abolished, yet the southern states clung to racist policies until the federal government forced them grant freedom to their black citizens. The same is true for a host of civil liberties that through the force of federal law compelled many states to grant those liberties guaranteed by the Constitution upon states that had denied those freedoms.

You cite the Florida concealed weapons permit laws as your sole example, unsurprisingly, yet to don't mention civil rights, 4th amendment protections, women's suffrage, and a slew of other examples where "freedom" was brought about solely through the power of the federal government. Why is that?

No liberal here seems to remember the early 2000's.. Lawrence v. Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New York didnt reverse their laws until 2000, Pennsylvania 1995, etc
By "some states have already tried," do you mean "every single state at one point did?" - because that's the reality. Oh, and both Pennsylvania and New York sodomy laws were reversed in 1980 by judicial action.

And I assure you essentially every liberal here remembers Lawrence v. Texas - a ruling (still) derided by many conservatives (see Santorum, Cain, Bachmann, Perry). The Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, Liberty Counsel, Center for the Original Intent of the Constitution, and many other conservative groups submitted briefs in support of the Texas law. Many state Republican parties (including Texas's) still have as part of their official platforms a vow to re-criminalize sodomy.

No, and even if they did, how would they enforce it?

Anybody who turns down renters solely because they are gay are complete and utter trash. Wonder if they are afraid the gay will wash off on them? Pathetic.

Here you have a liberal defending the right to have oral and anal sex. Mind you, I think both are completely disgusting, but if other people want to do it, they should be allowed to consensually and in the privacy of their own home.
