First Lady Michelle Obama denied reports of tension between her and White House aides, saying people have tried to portray her as “some kind of angry black woman.”
Quote:
In an interview with CBS News, the first lady said she has not read New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor’s new book “The Obamas,” which depicts her as a forceful behind-the-scenes power player in her husband’s administration who often clashes with the president’s top advisers.

“I guess it’s more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman. But that’s been an image that people have tried to paint of me since the day Barack announced. That I’m some angry black woman.”

We all know an Angry Black Woman. We've worked with one...we've lived nearby one.....we've sat beside one on the bus....we've stood in the checkout line with one.

I don't think it's a stereotype. I think it's real. And from what i've seen of Michele Obama, I think she qualifies.

What's your opinion?

i agree that this stereotype exists, and i agree that she seems to fit it.

that said, i know very little about her personally; my only knowledge of her is what I see portrayed in the media.

She did it to herself.

I'd like some specific examples/video clips of her being an angry black woman. It seems like the same kind of assertiveness that made a man a "go getter" and a woman a b***h, now makes a white woman a "strong, empowered woman" and a black woman an "angry black woman."

Michele Obama is an EXTREMELY intelligent, well read, well bred, polite, soft spoken caring woman, mother, wife, daughter. She behaves with class and integrity, she loves her God, her country, her family. She is another example of the American Dream and has NEVER during her tenure as first lady done ANYTHING that would show herself as an angry black woman. Right wing rag radio/tv/media and sound bite kings feed this kind of crappola to easily swayed bigoted repugs and they vomit it out amongst themselves. But it doesn't make it true.

What I find so interesting about this, is that this has story has spread using words like "tired" or "weary". I don't doubt that she is one of millions of black women who *are* tired of this stereotype, and as a black man, I'm well aware of the fact that many white people are horrified beyond belief when I raise my voice, or scowl, or in some cases just show up. And I'm aware that she has been portrayed, for no apparent reason, as the Angry Black Woman - as I recall, Bill O'Reilly explicitly called her that back in 2008. But in this case, it's as if the internet news outlets just can't wait to prove that she was perfectly correct.

Oy. Every stereotype out there exists. That doesn't mean it counts for the majority or even a large minority. The first lady has done nothing publicly that would ever warrant calling her an "angry black woman."

sorry but I don't know of any angry black women nor have I lived near one nor have I stood near one in a checkout line. As a matter of fact, some of the nicest women I have ever met have been black. But I have seen plenty of angry white trailer trash women like the above.

OP, you come off as being very racist with this post. Its no wonder why you are a neocon.

Complete B.S. Do you actually interact w/ the real world? I'm asking b/c if you're comparing Michelle Obama to the ABW personalities that do exist, then you're showing your ignorance on both.

Who's next? Oprah?

Instead of trying to draw false comparisons between MO & some random personalities in life, why don't you compare her to another behind-the-scenes political wife and explain how she's different than... Hillary Clinton?
