Something sounds fishy about this..

Quote:
"In this one, the teachers were trying to do a cross-curricular activity," district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

Roach explained the teachers were trying to incorporate social studies lessons into the math problems, which is something the school district encourages. But the problem with the questions is there is no historical context.

that sounds pretty dumb to be honest. mainly because it doesn't really incorporate social studies into math problems. it just uses "slave" and "beatings."

i mean, i could see teaching fractions and US history by using the old 3/5 of a person law

Which begs the question - why did the teacher give this assignment?

LOL. They couldn't teach any fractions other than 3/5 that way. I mean, seriously, WTF?!?

Nothing suprises me about the mindset of people and the harm they will and can do to children if left unchecked in the classrooms. I saw the report on the news last night, nothing funny about it, so not suprised there's not more outrage about this.

Add slaves to a math equation and what do you get: Upset parents in Gwinnett County | Get Schooled

This is pretty outrageous. If my child brought homework home like this, I would've raised holy hell.

So trivializing the horrible treatment that slaves received is funny to you? What about a math equation that referenced Jewish people being gassed...still funny?

Surely those parents are racist. There is nothing here about the race of the parents but I know that in DC they would be considered racist.
