APNewsBreak: Miss. Gov. Barbour pardons 4 killers - Yahoo! News

Well, isn't that sweet? I wonder what strange dealings he has that would compel him to pardon four convicted murderers who just so happened to have worked at his mansion. I guess this is what they call being "tough on crime" down in Mississippi Republican circles. Pro-life...except for the lives of those people that these four killed. If they kill again, we'll know who should be convicted as an accessory to their crimes.

Quote:
Outgoing Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has pardoned at least four convicted killers who worked as inmate trusties at the Governor's Mansion, including a man who was denied parole less than two weeks ago.

The inmates are David Gatlin, convicted of killing his estranged wife in 1993; Joseph Ozment, convicted in 1994 of killing a man during a robbery; Anthony McCray, convicted in 2001 of killing his wife; Charles Hooker, sentenced to life in 1992 for murder; and Nathan Kern, sentenced to life in 1982 for burglary after at least two prior convictions.

[MOD CUT]
I am SO glad that we have crooked politicians like this in positions of authority so that they can unleash these kinds of criminals upon us - shows just how concerned they are with justice and our safety and well-being. Another all-American WIN!

That liberal is a republican in case you didn't read the thread. Republicans, soft on crime - hard on the middle class. That should be their slogan.

I think that my liberal/progressive credentials are fairly well established and I frankly don't see any mass conspiracy or corruption in Barber's decision. Murders have the lowest recidivism rate, as a class, of convicted felons. The fact that they worked in the governor's mansion simply means in my mind that Barbour was able to closely observe their behavior and may have had an opportunity to access their personalities on a daily basis, something that parole boards are not afforded.

Reading the fact that one of the pardons was for a murderer who during a robbery put a gun to the victims head and shot him twice. To even give any consideration is bad enough, but to actually pardon such a sick disgusting piece of fu***** shi* is so disgusting. How anyone could defend this stupid governers actions is beyond any common sense.

I wouldn't have recommended pardons, although I haven't read the circumstances in each case.

I like the Gov a lot, but I'd like to hear his justification for the pardons.

Default Miss. Gov. Barbour pardons 4 killers

"The inmates are David Gatlin, convicted of killing his estranged wife in 1993; Joseph Ozment, convicted in 1994 of killing a man during a robbery; Anthony McCray, convicted in 2001 of killing his wife; Charles Hooker, sentenced to life in 1992 for murder; and Nathan Kern, sentenced to life in 1982 for burglary after at least two prior convictions.

The pardons outraged victims' relatives as well as Democratic lawmakers, who called for an end to the custom of governors' issuing such end-of-tenure pardons".

Wow..this is pretty crazy. I guess the Gov. stuck it to those victims. How do law and order conservatives feel about this?
