You better not eat out or get groceries from the market or heck canned goods are notorius for having critters run amuck on the can tops in the warehouses. OH! and soft drink cans.....they run on those too. The horror!

You do realize that establishments that fail to meet whatever standards have bet set by local authorities get shut down.

Maybe these gatherings on public property should have to adhere to similar sanitation standards in the interest of public health or be shut down.

Maybe they can divert some of their money slated for buying for puppets and drums and spend it on rodent control, sanitation and other not-so-cool, fun stuff.

Oh yes because controlling critter population in the open, in a park is easy.

Perhaps if the paid off the HD or the inspector, they would have been allowed to stay open, but you see life truly does not work that way. The kitchen will be back soon enough if not already.

Have you been to DC? All I saw was rats running around the National Mall, and no I'm not talking about the politicians. DC has had a rat problem for a while.

You do realize that rats in DC are common? Especially in the back alleys behind restaurants, with the dumpsters are located. They are even away from prime food locations - I've seen big rats run across the street at the Ellipse and head into the shrubbery at the White House - and before anyone jokes, this was before the Obama administration.

As much as some want to tie the rats to the image of Occupy as being filthy, the presence of rats doesn't indicate filth as the cause. Rats can create filth once there is an infestation, but the arrival of rats does not mean filthy conditions, it means unsecured food supplies.

Along with...........Diseases Break-outs at Occupy Wall Street Show Poor Planning, Hygiene - Yahoo! News

The combination of bad sanitation and unwashed bodies may be causing it.
Outbreaks of tuberculosis, a disease that used to afflict many people in the 19th century, including Chopin and Doc Holliday, have cropped up at Occupy Atlanta. Something called "Zuccotti Lung" has appeared at the Occupy Wall Street site. The symptoms appear to consist of uncontrolled wheezing, vomiting, and diarrhea.

For a group of people who are pretty sure that American society is messed up and needs changes, the occupiers have certainly proven themselves incapable of governing themselves in a civilized fashion. They seem to have recreated in miniature societies that are part Marxist communes and part medieval towns, with all the problems inherent in both.

None of the occupiers seems to have been in the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts teaches the proper way to maintain a camp, including sanitation and the necessity of digging latrines and then filling them properly after they are used. These common outdoors skills seem to have escaped the city slicker protestors who have gathered to whine about their lot in live.
