Should parents hit their kids when they have poor grades? & does the punishment fit the crime?
I think the real question is should parents be concerned with anything other parents do as long as it is legal? As far as I know I'm raising my child and I couldn't care less about anyone's opinion on how that should be done.
My Dad would heat up a cast iron shovel in the fireplace and beat my naked ass with it if I did not get all A's. Helped me become the man I am today. Thanks, Dad.
I've always used the "did it leave a mark" standard for when corporal punishment for children starts treading the fine line of abuse v. discipline.
I got more than one slap across the face at the dinner table for mouthing off as a kid.... but if a table leg was used to knock me over the head, for the same behavior, then that would be too far.

Wow! and having grown you think this was ok? That's sad. I suspect you grew because you didn't want to be like your dad... Have you done this to your children? That's the true test how acceptable you think that was.
She went way to far. I never got hit for bad grades but I did get disiplined for them via no TV, no radio, staying in my room, no playtime outside and such. The only time I got hit was when I mouthed off.
I don't think the punishment fit the "crime" of bad grades. How is slapping your child around going to train them to study? Or get them help if that's what they actually need? From the (very skimpy) article, it sounds like that kid needs supervision, not smacking.
