Dr. Walter Williams explains the immorality of the liberal position:
"Once one accepts the principle of self-ownership, what's moral and immoral becomes self-evident. Murder is immoral because it violates private property. Rape and theft are also immoral -- they also violate private property. Here's an important question: Would rape become morally acceptable if Congress passed a law legalizing it? You say: "What's wrong with you, Williams? Rape is immoral plain and simple, no matter what Congress says or does!" If you take that position, isn't it just as immoral when Congress legalizes the taking of one person's earnings to give to another? Surely if a private person took money from one person and gave it to another, we'd deem it theft and, as such, immoral. Does the same act become moral when Congress takes people's money to give to farmers, airline companies or an impoverished family? No, it's still theft, but with an important difference: It's legal, and participants aren't jailed."
The idea is laughable. It takes into no account the things that the government has helped them do to obtain the private property.
Now I don't agree with endless property taxes, and a lot of things that we tax on. But to say that taxing the wealthy at a proportional rate of the assets that they can control is rape, is asinine.
Actually taxes are like date rape. He takes her to a party, maybe even dinner. Then either drugs her or holds her down. It's still rape, it just has some obfuscating elements thrown in. If she complains later, he'll say "hey, you were the one who wanted to go to the party."
Any government action whose sole purpose is to redistribute wealth would constitute theft. This is not limited to taxes.
Interesting. so all they really need to do is to change their stated purpose. Say its purpose is for "growing the economy," or something, and *poof* -- it's not theft anymore.
That's basically what they did with fractional reserve banking, 100 years ago... it isn't stealing, if it is "growing the economy."
As we are a Republic, theoretically you have a say in how your taxes are spent.
BTW why is it immoral for a government to redistribute wealth downward and moral for monopoly business to redistribute it upward?
Besides being robbed is not the same as being raped even though some men are so in love with their money thay consider it to be a rape of their wallets.
Taxation isn't theft. It is what you pay, involuntarily, for services rendered by government.
Living in this country, you use government services whether you like it or not.
True! But righties want everthing handed to them for free....in thieir tiny tiny minds they think they're independent....(they don't even know they drive on highways they didn't personally build themselves! MOOCHERS!)
This thread started at a near record low and then began to dig rapidly. We even have an Adolf Hilter quote before page 2!
This turd should be cast in bronze as an example of how bad this forum can be and how utterly nuts some of the posts are due to partisan blindness and likely medical conditions.

well no, see --
first you have to assume that you pay more in, than all those other losers out there.
then you have to create a special class of "costs", which benefit you, which are exempt from any criteria that might make it "redistribution of wealth."
Then, the rest is simple -- you argue everyone else's benefits are "socialism", and the things you pay for are "legitimate costs of government."
How about this? If someone tries to rape me, I will stop him and he will never try to rape anyone ever again, regardless of what Congress says or does not say. Moral or immoral? I don't give a rat's azz.
