The love for the most freeing and liberating document ever produced, is a passion that is openly expressed, will get you crucified in the US today.

Patriotism to the US Constitution 100%, whether it hurts you or helps you, is very rare.

How does this happen, in the land of the free, home of the brave?

Any data to back up that assertion? Or, is this just the usual editorial/opinion piece that we see here so often in P&C?

It happens because few people have read either the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence, and fewer still understand them.

It sorta reminds me of the fellow who was holding forth on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when the Beckbots were in DC. He was going on about how we should get God back into the schools and fire non-Christian teachers, etc. When I dared to mention that the Constitution wouldn't allow that, all he could do was pause, give me a blank look, then go right on with his spiel.

It went right over his head.

With the ability to change and adapt expressly built into the document, I doubt the original writers wanted people to worship a static document to read off of unthinkingly forever. A literal static and unchanging system was what they were fleeing from and risked their lives fighting against.

Very few people understand the constitution, and the ones that do understand, very few support all of it.
