If you want Guantanamo closed then you have to put pressure on Congress to provide funds for an alternative facility.

It is currently congressional action that is preventing the closure of Guantanamo and the end to this sorry piece of U.S. history.

Well, at least Obama objected to it....but then signed it. Game set and match folks....nothing to see here. Move along.

What's really pathetic is that groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have greatly toned down their Guantanamo protests because it's no long lucrative for donations.

They beat that drum like crazy when Bush was in office but once Obama took over, they didn't want to alienate their donor base and no longer had Bush as a focal point of anger.

Probably took one look at how far under the bus Cindy Sheehan got thrown for turning on Obama and took at look at thier donation roster and made a ""tactical strategy adjustment".

Some of the same people who are knocking the marchers attack Obama for not closing Gitmo.

Hahaha. "I don't like it, but I guess I'll sign it." Now THAT's leadership. Way to protect the Constitution, Barry.

I'm pretty sure that you've spent a few minutes to educate self on the subject, and the overwhelming support to closure of Gitmo... the President never showed any interest in closing Gitmo, did he? And that executive order to close Gitmo was a lie.

It would be amusing if it weren't down right pathetic.

Because marching is nothing more than a glorified publicity stunt. It's an impotent sham, the belief that symbolic gestures are more important than actual action.

Want to change the situation? Vote for a political candidate who actually has some integrity on the subject of the so-called War On Terror, which is actually becoming the War On The Constitution. Ron Paul seems to be the only candidate who give a rats youknowwhat about the Constitution nowadays.

Exactly!

The Left compared GitMo to Auschwitz when Bush was around. Now that Obama is the Warden, its an unfortunate thing to be ignored or blamed on funding.

Obama is an immensley charismatic man who happens to be President. If he really thought the place was a moral stain he could have browbeaten a Democratically-controlled house or used an Executive Order to close it down once and for all.

Obama and Gitmo are like Thomas Jefferson and Slavery. Yea they claim to disdain it, but when push comes to shove, they like it just fine.

It's designed to be an end-run around Constitutional protections - a place where the US government can exert power without being held responsible. Special Courts in Special Camps for Special Prisoners is not part of the American ideals I grew up admiring.

Inshort, it's the graveplace of America's honor - that do it for you?

Also, as a reminder, your beloved President just signed away your Constitutional right to due process just a few days ago. But yet you rally for suspected terrorists? Do you realize that its YOU that could possibly be held indefinitely thanks to this awesome President you elected?
Oh, give it a rest. The primary purpose of the NDAA is to fund and run the freakin' US military, and vetoing it due to a rider that a bunch of a-hole Congresscritters put in it was not in the cards. There's a signing statement that this administration won't use the detention process. And it's unconstitutional on the face of it - Hamdi vs. Rumsfeld makes that clear.

How about rallying for yourself instead of some bad guys from a desert wasteland a half a world away?
Oh they're bad. And not from around here. Well, then who cares? Untermenschen. "God-given rights" obviously do net extend to those not members of Club America.
