I'm glad to see the president taking the fight to the republicans on issues...that was one of the main problems I had with him..Although it be late and some political posturing both parties do this. I don't see how republicans will oppose this as it will make them look the same as they did in December on taxes. Mitt "the Flip Flop" Romney will lose this election to Obama because of the foolishness of his fellow Republicans...wait didn't Romney say he was progressive? I'm confused..
OBAMA 2012
Don't you think all members of congress should be concerned about ceding power to the president. why have a congress lets juts have a dictator

You still have not answered the question that if it is their then why are they not doing it? If they do not do something then why not the President, and did you have an issue with Ronney have the same power, funny I seem to doubt it?
Well, I believe I have caught my limit of Hypocrites for one thread, I do not want to get caught with too many in my bag, so someone else will have to bag the rest, have fun, I know I did, this is far too easy
Obama is pretty obviously pulling a shrewd political move, trying to corner the Republicans by doing exactly what they always calling for: shrinking the federal government and eliminating inefficiencies. Either the Republicans go along with it, which makes him look effective (especially in the aftermath of the recess appointments), or they oppose him, which makes them look like bumbling obstructionist hypocrites.
To the individual who cried about this unprecedented power grab, did you read the article, or even the thread? This isn't unprecedented at all. This is a President in an election year trying to pull off some gamesmanship. To all the whiners about the rise of Fuhrer Obama, Congress still votes on any mergers. Too many ill-informed Chicken Littles on this board.
I love the arguments I hear on Fox about whether or not he is in campaign mode or still working. I think this thing is nothing more than a ploy to win some votes. As least some people here voted yes although when I voted a few minutes ago the no vote was ahead.
Obama talked about this crap in his SOTU last January and now all of a sudden he has asked for it. I can't wait to see what he says about this in his great campaign speech that will be called his SOTU, 2012.
It is a brilliant political move though. Most US Presidents go quiet as far as big policy moves in the last year of their Presidency. President Obama is trying something new.
I'm not saying its right or wrong, but it is interesting to watch.
Merging Departments would decrease spending and thus decrease the debt in the long run, your arguement is illogical IMHO.
$3 billion.

I agree. Let him give congress his proposals and then CONGRESS can see about consolidating departments...isn't that a much better idea?
If you are a republican you have to be against this because you are normally against anything and everything Obama wants and proposes no matter how good it is for our nation.
