Other than that, it does not violate HIPAA rules to release medical info to the child's parent / legal guardian.
The article mentions that at a public meeting for parents at the school, they wouldn't release this information. It doesn't say the parents of the afflicted kids haven't been told.

Well I guess if you don't have kids going to that school then you'd just dismiss this.
But I can see why parents at that school would want more information. They're probably worried that their kid could be next.

The schools inform parents of the presence of communicable disease in the school. In our peds office, we get frequent calls about pertussis, hand, foot and mouth disease, strep and others, when the parent has received a notification from the school.

According to WGRZ, officials have ruled out environmental factors, infections, the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning, illegal drugs and vaccines like Gardasil.
It's not Gardasil, people.

Ablow also brings up that the question of why parents who may have knowledge of the diagnosis of their girls (it is assumed that if some girls have been diagnosed, their parents would be told of the disorder as they are still minors) aren’t coming forward.
It is assumed that the parents of those afflicted girls know the diagnoses but are choosing not to share that information. The doctors are not at liberty to discuss the medical findings with anyone other than the families of the girls.

The state Dept of Health says all is fine but the parents disagree.

At least 12 schoolgirls in New York develop debilitating mystery illness, health department refuses to disclose cause (Gardasil?)
Jim DuPont, a parent of one of the afflicted girls, expressed outrage about the situation to local reporters following the meeting. Though Dr. Young and the health department claim there is a diagnosis, DuPont says this is untrue. He also says that even he has not been told why his daughter and the others fell ill, as authorities are keeping the true cause, if they even know it, under wraps.

I guess you didn't click on the link..shoot the messenger ?

Right at the top is this:

(NaturalNews) Please note that the suggested connection between the mystery illness and the HPV vaccine Gardasil is unconfirmed, and is merely a speculation based on the other facts presented. It is the author's opinion that Gardasil may be related, but readers are encouraged to develop their own hypothesis, since authorities refuse to disclose what they say is the actual diagnosis.

Seems more like a case of the parent being unhappy with what the doctors are telling him (or the fact that the doctors can't tell him more since they can't figure it out) - not that the doctors are refusing to tell him anything and are freezing him out of the treatment of his daughter (as implied by the OP and many other posters on here).

Obviously, we're not in the loop since this is private medical information that isn't being released, but from the 3 articles I've read, it seems the girls, or at least some of the them, may have been diagnosed with conversion disorder, and that while they doctors can't pinpoint the cause, they've ruled out several including environmental factors, poisonings, illicit drugs, hysteria, fake illness and vaccines. That's not strange or out of the ordinary. Doctors very often diagnose and treat something without ever coming to an understanding of what caused it.

In the original artice it seems (I say seems becasue the article is horribly written) that Mr. DuPont is asked about the statements of another child's mother (the Millers) in which she implies her daugher was diagnosed with conversion disorder. Mr. DuPont responds by saying: “Even if that’s what it was, it does not tell us the cause of it. You could call it anything you want, but what caused it?”
