While not really a scientific concept, but Gaydar. Some people can pick up on subtle cues indicating someone is gay. Some gays are more obvious and don't require as refined a "gaydar". Some gays are so hard to tell you would never know unless they told you.

While gays are notoriously fashion conscious compared to many straights, doesn't necessarily mean a person who dresses well is gay. They could be metrosexual.

More than likely it's because he ("it") has not been treated for the disease yet.

If a straight guy who wants to fight me finds out i'm gay half the time he'll back off. i've been told because it's a no win situation for him. If he loses that means that he lost to a gay guy and if he wins (which in my case he would have to kill me because i'd keep coming until he does) then he attacked a gay person.

but

I think it's funny that lots of straight guys have a stereotype that gay means wimpy. not so.
Many have little or no experience with homosexuals. HS make up what, 1-3% of the population? I can't say that I know that many people with whom I have discussed their sexuality. As such, many people's primary exposure is what is portraid on TV. Which is almost universally somewhat effimate, or at best, not particularly "manly".

Someone may have already said this, but ummmm.....why do men like to put their penises in womens' anal passages??

Also to the OP. We had only 2 openly gay guys at my high school. Both were rather effeminate but both could kick some a$$ so they didn't get messed with too often.

I remember once in particular a good friend of mine who is gay, was voted homecoming king. He was the only guy that ran and my high school had a rather large population for our city of around 800 students total and over 200 guys were eligible, they just didn't want to run. So of course my friend wins and one of our guy classmates got mad that we were represented at homecoming by a gay guy and got all up in his face threatening him and even pushed him- the homecoming king. And within like 2 seconds the homecoming king kick the mess out of that guy so he became a laughing stock at school and he was suspended and not the homecoming king since he started it first. This happened in the stands at the football game so there were a lot of witnesses.

A lot of the non-homophobe guys laughed at the attacker and told him he was stupid since the homecoming king was known as a good brawler and no one ever messed with him or made fun of him, and he was effeminate but he was very well built, musular in a lean sort of way, not a body builder way. He didn't take any stuff off of anyone.

To be fair, guys can get (and often do) get erections when angered or disgusted. It could just be a biological response and not necessarily an act of arousal. The body doesn't always do what we think it should do. Another example is that some rape victims (both male and female) have had orgasms during the act of rape. So it's probably not the best to use that line of arguing.

Although, I do think a lot of people who hate gays (I dislike the word "homophobic" in this context as it is a political term, not a scientific one) probably do harbor some homosexual tendencies and that might be the root of much of their hostility. They have some attraction to the same sex (either mild or outright gay) and it makes them uncomfortable with themselves, so they lash out at those who are comfortable with being gay out of envy and projected self-hatred.

I also stand by that a lot of people who hate gays hate them for the same reasons that countless groups have been hated. It gives the small-minded a common foe, because of ignorance, because they are different (real or imagined), because haters find the lifestyle gross, because they are a minority, or just because it is fun to hate someone. Take your pick.

I can't wait until I read all the posts to respond .. Maybe we should ask if they know how many professional athletes of any sport are Gay?

I have known a few Gays and they ran the gamut from flamer to rock hard macho sports freak, most were average guys you wouldn't guess were Gay.

Next time some of these guys are at the doctor they should ask how many men are "aroused" during a prostate exam.

You may be the exception not the rule. It may be hard to sache into a room of brawler types and say, "thay any of you ruffians want to get it on"! Yep, that's when the fight started!

You've shown you know less than zero about gays and lesbians.

And this post is no exception.
