I just read an article about the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), which is a huge lobby group for the US movie, music, and entertainment industry. Don't be fooled by the word International, the only international aspect about it is the bullying.
Seems it has - supported by the US government - been manipulating and even threatening governments for instance in Spain, France, and Britain so that they passed laws on what the IIAP considers violations of US intellectual property, laws that go beyond corresponding laws in the US, for instance a three strikes law that would deny the French and others caught using P2P networks three times any future access to the Internet.
They have a black list 301 containing countries allegedly not doing enough to support the IIAP's interests. On that list are countries such as Canada, Israel, Russia, China, India... but not the US, despite all of the pirating going on there
I wish the international community would finally get a backbone and unite and, if necessary, risk a trade war with the US. Time to start ignoring US interests
I understand that now that the US has all but ruined its manufacturing base, copyrights is one of the few remaining ways to make profits, but that is not the world's fault.
