Is your family Black?

You do realize that many Blacks who worked on plantations were slaves right? Or are you denying that?

That's not what this thread is about. Are you trying to derail the topic? Haven't you learned your lesson yet?

Oh my caught you before you changed you post. Not good for you.

My family picked cotton and many other crops on plantations for many years in the first half of the 20th century.

The thread isn't about Blacks working on plantations?

Let me guess, it's about your poor family right.

The title is misleading. Read the linked article. I'm only using what the OP posted. Again stay on topic. Are you afraid of Blacks or any minority learning the value of hard work?

Here is the solution since you are having a hard time understanding: Saying an entire race is only capable of hard work through plantation work is very ignorant.

There are a few problems with this, Bulldogdad.

1.) This is 2012, where one is capable of working hard without working on a plantation.

2.) Hard labor is not the sole solution to instilling work ethic. Any of these GOPers/ignorant people would have seemed more informed if they made a remark about getting our children proper role models/parents, education etc.

3.) If you and others on City Data have not realized, black people aren't born "ghetto", lazy, criminals, or whatever else people assume about an entire race.

Once again, any human is capable of either not working hard or working hard. Why did you only mention "Blacks or any minority"?

no one is against learning the value of hard work bulldog...but values are not "taught" on platations or in the cotton fields or by tending to crops....so your family picked cotton in the early 20th century, thats great...do you pick cotton today or tend to the fields your family used to pick from 100 years or so ago? or is that job of a day laborer or illegal immigrant now?

for this a clown peterson and the "rich" history professor gingrich to claim that if you give a kid a mop or give them a sack to pick crops, they will grow up to learn the value and meaning of what hard work is absurd.....when was the last time gingrich, or any other rich person at that, picked up a broom or a freaking mop? when was the last time he even scrubbed his own toilet after he took a dump into it?

As a teenager I worked the tomato fields here in California in 100 degree heat.

I dig dirt for a living. No one knows the value of hard work more than I.

Who cares what Gingrich or Peterson do, they obviously have worked hard enough or are smart enough to make a living.

This does not make their opinions wrong.
