I thought the tea party was about taxes? What the hell does this have to do with taxes?

Nah...don't distance the Tea Party from the Republicans now. Too late.

They're part of the mainstream Republican party...always were, always will be. These people didn't just pop up out of some hole or hatch from an egg. They've always been Republicans.
