It looks as though the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing board is intending to use some of the $30 million it got from BP as a part of the oil spill settlement to buy naming rights on the New Orleans Arena, where the NBA Hornet's play.

Seafood board may use BP cash to rename N.O. arena - KTEN.com Sherman Denison Ardmore News Weather Sports

I thought the the money we squeezed out of BP was supposed to help those affected by the disaster? I suppose doing this could be called "helping" indirectly, but wouldn't that money be better spent by covering the losses of Gulf Coast shrimpers and fishermen, or for rejuvenating damaged wetlands?

Naw...they've got cash to spend and, by God, they're gonna spend it!

Just like with the tobacco settlement, a big corporation has been legally raped and the money will provide high times for whoever gets it and do nothing for the little guy.

How cool would it be if they made the new arena in the shape of a giant crab.

I thought the affected shrimpers and others could all apply for compensation?

I have seen some tourism adds for the gulf paid for by BP....I will be down in June.
