Heyak stated in his book "the road to serfdom" that liberals (classical liberalism) will always lose the argument with socialists because of the mistaken belief that "if a little socialism is good a lot must be even better."

Mind you the democratic socialist model in europe is failing just as communism, another form of socialism, failed in russia while socialism in china is simply being used as a form of govenment fully suited to keep the populace under control not a functioning economic model.

Yes indeed! Fast food workers get no paid vacation whatsoever. In addition to minimum wages of $15/Hour, we need to get two months paid vacation every year, and a restaurant workers union that protects us from dismissal if we decide not to go to work when we don't feel like it.

In order to increase the number of people employed we need to shorten the work week to 35 hours consisting of three 10 and one 5 hour day at the same overall pay as a 40 hour week. That way four shifts could keep a factory working 24/7 five days per week. This system would require more employees thus reducing unemployment.

Maybe it should be, "If it works for Google, it could work for every business".

Workers getting vacations in Europe is not the cause of their problems.

On second thought, since European workers have a 30% lower standard of living than American workers, and the average rate of unemployment over the last twenty years has been stubbornly higher in Europe than in America, and the economic growth rate over the last few decades has been so much lower in Europe than in America...maybe we should leave well enough alone.
So, shooting for the stars, that typical American approach to things, that spirit that brought America to the forefront of the world on so many levels is to be abandoned because it will apparently LOWER our standard of living? How the hell is that even measured?

Europe has done some things right and some things wrong. Where labor is concerned, the rights and benefits of its workers are pretty impressive. Your attitude that we shouldn't aim high, that we should just take what we're given by corporations, is stupefying. Why would anyone dream of a Yugo when they could dream of Rolls Royce? Is this what we've come to: Let the corporations dictate the rules and keep your eyes to the floor?

That's why America is the shame of the first world when it comes to worker rights. 2 weeks paid vacation should be mandatory. Ever notice how right wingers call anything the least bit decent to do "socialism". People are too greedy to do things without the law making them so there's no reason the law should not make them.

then how come majority of business already give vacation and sick/personal time?

Ever notice how left wingers are unwilling to do something for themselves like negotiate, or find an employer that will give them what they want, instead they would rather someone else do it for them.

Yes. At least two weeks. Companies that do not provide at least that much for their employees have awful managers that ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Americans are rather barbaric in their views of what's "normal" working conditions in the civilized world.

Too many managers and owners are too short sighted to understand how happy, healthy and loyal workers actually means better success in the long run. But, that's what happens when you've only got to worry about next quarter's profits and keeping shareholders happy.
