There are means people can have some 'delight treats" and still fit within program guidelines as it relates to health and nutrition within the usage of these benefits.
Not only buying cake and cookie mix, it will help them put some effort into making the treats, which they can gain some sense of pride, and who knows, they may even learn enough to develop a business model from creative baking or cooking.
The sad part of the snack industry, is it employs people, and those people pay taxes, so if we deny the ability to purchase these goods, how ill that impact the snack industry? It's a very interesting questions of a seeming catch 22 or a spin of double 11's.
maybe we should pursue the snack makers to make better quality snacks with real ingredients instead of the crap they sell which is made up ultimately of health problem inducing compounds.
As a nation, we need to get back to making quality foods - Period.

I never said there weren't multiple possible solutions.
Also, this is a bit off topic, but not all states have government-run alcohol stores. Mine doesn't. Alcohol, including liquor, is sold in privately-owned establishments.
Long ago poor folks were not allowed to buy "junk food" or soda or other not good for them food items with food stamps .. and then the lobbyists of Cola drinks and Fritolay got involved and the gov opened the door so the junk food makers could get their share of the pie in the sky and ads targeted the poor with cheap drinks and junkfood they didnt need but because it was targeting the kids the junk food got to be a habit to all.. I also remember we couldnt buy any imported foods .. yanno that included fruits that came from south of the border and then NAFTA was approved and guess what ? we got to buy imported foods .. oh yeh you guys need to think back to the early days of the early 70s and food stamps .. they were hard on folks and folks ate real food !

Fair enough.
Its not off topic at all, we are discussing possible options to reduce junk food consumption among those who use food stamps.
And i know every state doesnt have ABC stores, but the concept would still be applicable to each state.

Food stamps should only used to purchase FOOD. Why do we allow them to be used to purchase soda pop?If our tax dollars are needed to feed people shouldn't we restrict what they can buy? Shouldn't we at least eliminate empty calories?
Basically its a waste of money to enforce as we have seen when food stamps where used as money to buy dope until replaced by cards. What next decide what people buy withy unearned income?
I don't have an issue w/ people using food stamps to buy junk food, however buy actual food too! As long as you are feeding your children meals, there is nothing wrong w/ buying snacks as well.
