Given that being an embarrassment probably isn't that uncommon in the GOP, I would speculate that he just isn't rich enough

Or, may be he isn't crazy enough.

Districts should be drawn as rectangles by a neutral computer.

Odd thought: Doesnt gerrymandering by either party violate the constitution on grounds of equal representation?

Goppers in CA and Dems in OH (and numerous others) are being disenfranchised.

Just look at what is happening within establishment Republicans against Newt, who is viewed as difficult to control vs. Romney. The establishment wants someone they can control.

Leading the redistricting effort is one of Mitt Romney’s spokemen. Florida Representative Will Weatherford, during the course of his remarks after the FL debate shed light on the redistricting process.

An unnamed legislator said that, “Allen West was screwed”, about five months before themaps were made public, leading insiders to believe that the fix was in. According to Weatherford a deal was struck between him, Senate President Mike Haridopolos, and Senator Don Gaetz to finalize these maps and push them through.

Weatherford used the excuse of needing to comply with federal law, but it is said there were other ways to comply yet not sacrifice West.

A website Save District 22, Represented by Congressman Allen West had been set up, but it appears to be too late.

A good man, a rising star in politics, is about to be sacrificed by the Republican establishment in Florida, led by someone spinning for Mitt Romney.

I think because the GOP strategists realize that Allen West is a liability more than he is an asset. He can rile up the cuckoos but alienates any mainstream Republicans and independents.

You did this much better than I would have but then you live down there and know what is going on. I can't see how anybody with a brain wouldn't see that Romney doesn't want West around in 2016 just in case Obama wins this fall, if he allows an election this fall.

I call it the establishment Republicans and Romney who got this map drawn. I think that Weatherford is very deeply embedded in it and he may have been the one who said that Allen is screwed. I bet not many of our left handed friends want to accept the fact that the plans were drawn up five months ago. Yes the Florida Republicans control both houses of the legislature but the establishment ones controls them, too.

Sounds like you're for the establishment.

We need people of values and principles in government - and their ranks seem to be shrinking. It's "politics as usual", in which the likes of Pelosi, Reid and Obama had their parts to play along with certain figures on the other side of the aisle, that prompted the formation of the T.E.A. Party. That's truly grass roots, fueled by being fed up with political game playing.

At least West has the courage to say that which makes others uncomfortable. Truth often has a way of doing that.
