How is this different than the cops union? Don't they protect their members. Ever heard of the thin blue line, code of silence?

Can't you say the same about the police department. Doesn't a big chunk go towards their budget? I always hear people complaining about crime rising and being out of control

Do you believe that most public school teachers are bad or to blame for poorly perfomring schools/students? Do you believe that there are many bad teachers?

Nice try.

That is a dispute between a Democratic Governor and a Democratic County (mine is just so happens) on Who pays, not How Much is paid.

The dispute is who is to pay, state or county. Since the State has traditionally done so, but is now summarilly dropping it on the County's lap, well, that creates a problem.

Next time you google something and present it as evidence, try reading it.

When did I say "right wing blathering morons" or even bring up Republicans or Democrats. I"m not falling for your strawman. You stated that you've never heard anyone link teachers pensions with the deficit. I gave you an example. I'm sorry if it doesn't suit your needs.

Because teachers are not heroes.

[hero is an overused word]

a little bit of both.

Cops and firefighters risk their lives, teachers do not.

Teachers seem to have an entitlement complex , based on an inflated sense of their worth to society... sort of like social workers. Cops and firefighters seem to be in the opposite situation, risking their lives for less than teachers make.

That said, i don't like public sector unions in general.

And I have heard many people say all kinds of things.

I have not conducted a survey of the thousands of school districts in the United States of America and their respective starting salaries. If you have and the average is 30K, could you provide some kind of evidence?

Teachers only work 9 months and have the summers free. My friends who are teachers get other jobs during the summer or rent houses in Europe. Of course, they started at more than 30K.

I do agree with you about the parents, but that is another subject.

There's a lesson here...

Don't move to NYC.

Lightbulb Why so much rage and anger towards teachers unions but hardly none towards cop or firefighters union?

It's not all that hard to figure out...

It's a numbers thing, is all.

Most adults have been to school. And just look around this CD forum. It's obvious that education just didn't work all that well for quite a few. So, naturally, they hate teachers.

Not nearly as many have been in jail or had their house burn down.
