Jesus there's a lot of stupidity on this thread.

Seasonally adjusted numbers have been around forever - it evens out the numbers so there are not wild swing in data. Over the summer, you will see unemployment decrease below the "official" number. Nobody will be around bragging about it.

And KwazeeKween, or whatever your name is, to blame the economic collapse on the mere fact of the Democrats taking over congress is, well, stupidity, sorry. Presenting a graph like that as "evidence" is even worse. By that logic, any people who have left the workforce since November 2010 clearly did so because the Republicans were "in control."

In short, you lose.

Hmmm, I just looked at the U.S. Govt's Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly report.

Dec. 2011 . Jan. 2012
------------------------------------------------------------
153.373 . . . 153.485 . . . Civilian labor force (millions)
140.681 . . . 139.944 . . . No. of persons employed (millions)
12.692 . . . . 13.541 . . . No. of persons unemployed (millions)
. . 8.3% . . . . 8.8% . . . . Unemployment rate (percent)

These are the raw numbers, compiled by the government. See them at:
Table A-1. Employment status of the civilian population by sex and age

Looks to me like the unemployment rate went UP from Dec. 2011 to Jan 2012. And the number of people unemployed went UP, by 849 thousand people. (6.7% MORE people were unemployed in Jan than in Dec).

"Seasonal adjustments" have somehow made this go away. I wonder how those 849,000 additional unemployed people feel about this?
Its seasonal adjustment and it happens EVERY year, go back when Bush was his office, did he or anyone else use the dec to Jsn numbers that were not seasonally adjusted?? No

Or just average three or four "raw" months out. Seems like desperation is setting in, the wingnuts really hope this country fails... Politics ahead of country, how UNAMERICAN can they be?

We have to go all the way back to May of 1983 to find civilian workforce participation that low.

Obamanomics has failed.

Meaningless stat being used by wingnuts desparate to find fault with anything the media reports. Funny, we survived the 50's, 60's and 70's fine.
