As was argued unsuccessfully, the U-3 number far from tells the whole story. The devil, she is in the details. So, let's hold up on the coronation plans. This tale has many miles to travel, many turns to take, a few potholes for sure and possibly even hostile action that will bring a screeching halt to things.

Shouldn't there be more than a few Obama-lovers doing an about-face right now?

Quote:
The jobless rate unexpectedly fell to 8.3 percent in January, a government report showed on Feb. 3
[Emphasis mine]

WTF?

"Unexpectedly" has become one of the most over-used words in the English language in the last 4 years.

Grammatically...

Only fools rely on unemployment rate, rather than actual jobs added/subtracted from the economy. Ever wonder who the fools are? Think people covering weakness of job market with such greatness as "5% unemployment rate". It is no different today.

Well gee whiz..it's only 3.3% above NORMAL unemployment numbers.
Why is everyone worried..job creation is SURGING they tell us.
Nearly 37% of working age people do not have to work and are not counted. That tells you the economy is great when close to 40% of working age Americans do not have to work.

You should be dancing in the streets because according to the statistics provided by our esteemed government..life will only get better in the months ahead which means Obama SHOULD be re-elected because he did such a great job saving us.

OR..you could read shadowstats (22% unemployed), follow the Baltic Dry Index (25 year low) and look at your food shopping bill (up over 20% in one year).

I choose to do the latter so carry on with the unicorns and lollipops

So, the best defense is to attack, (only fools)? Now, really. BTW, that name calling would include those progressives who vigorously argued just a week ago, for how great 8.3% is. Can't have it both ways and be anywhere close to intellectually honest.

That is the best some can do. Best to just ignore them. Their only intent is to attack the poster and call them names.

Nobody who supports Obama was, to my knowledge, making the argument that the economy has recovered or that it is anywhere close to being robust.

The argument has been, and continues to be, that an economy is improving, and that we are in better shape now than we were three or four years ago, and I think most objective analysts would agree with that.

Another argument has been that an economy managed by Obama's and moderate progressive policies fares better than the alternative offered by the Republicans. To anyone interested in objectivity, there's no debating that either. But I'm not going to hold my breath and wait around for that objectivity.

Looking for any way possible to spin a negative out of what is obviously good news about an improving (albeit slowly improving) economy makes it pretty obvious what this is all about. Republicans and conservatives are scared that more objective and neutral voters aren't going to agree with them at the polls in November. They're afraid that neutral voters aren't going to run to the polls thinking 'ZOMG! Obama! ZOMG! Marxist! Fascist! Stalinist! Hitler! Weimar! Hyperinflation! ZOMG! 2012! Asteroid's acomin! ZOMG! Obamacare will kill yer granma! ZOMG! Run for your lives! Obama's a closet Kenyan Muslim Islamofascist! ZOMG! Gold standard! 9-11 was an inside job orchestrated by the Israelis! ZOMG! ZOMG! No, much to your chagrin, they're probably gonna vote for the guy who seems relatively sane.
