Yes, I know CNN is a private company, and they can hire and fire whoever they want, but I still find it regrettable whenever someone is reprimanded or fired for simply making a statement in his private life that is considered controversial by some.
Were his tweets part of his private life or a part of his job now, as it is with many people. My school system, while officially saying tweeting with students is not allowed and a grounds for suspension/firing, is unofficially encouraging it after a couple of news stories.

But it wasn't his private life. Like it or not, he represents CNN and they have every right to promote a certain image. If someone makes comments that damages that image, the company should deal with it.
If CNN allowed him to get away with it, it could be viewed as endorsing an anti-gay mentality, which could alienate viewers, and thus cost them money.
And this isn't the first anti-gay remark Roland has made. He's commented on him and his wife trying to "cure" gays through therapy.
I personally wonder when people are going to get the clue what tweeting and facebooking certain comments will come back to hurt you if you're not careful. Employers are already screening people based on those social networks.
American believe strongly in freedom of speech. I'm more turned off by CNN's censorship than I am by Martin's casual comment to his friends.
Its CNN's right to fire whom they want, for whatever reason they want. Now, do I agree with the statements made by this individual, no. But I don't watch CNN anyway, or rarely do.
This won't change that in the least. Cable news is bad juju.
Don't like the man, never have, likely never will, but this is wrong. If he gets fired over this he needs to sue, like Imus did, and get his job back. 1st Amendment rights don't just apply to what CNN likes.

1st Amendment doesn't apply to CNN at all. CNN is a private corporation. They are not bound by the 1st Amendment. 1st Amendment rights only apply to agents of the government.
Do you think it's fair that CNN should be required to let Roland Martin make anti-gay remarks, possibly costing CNN money due to losing endorsements/viewers, and they just have to suck it up because of Freedom of Speech?
