He says that poor people shouldn't be allowed school of choice, the option to send their kid to another better performing school. He brings up that they can always put their kids in a private school, but when it is pointed out that the poor can't afford private schooling, he says life isn't fair.

How can he justify making $550,000 as the head of the NJ teacher's union?

The point is HE SAID IT IS FOR THE KIDS.

I live in NJ, and I believe NJ school would be 100x better off without the union.

What have they contribute to the education system?

Union Boss = CEO.....Union = Corporation

Many Public Unions own their own health insurance which has a monopoly due to collective bargaining. Their monopoly charges outrageous prices at the expense of the local school district.

Are they working in the best interests of kids, the community, and dare I even say teachers?

Unions, like Big Govt and Big Corps all suffer from the same. The only way I see it changing is people getting aware and involved.

Um I live in NJ as well and in case you haven't noticed the schools here don't suck.

Obviously he's overpaid. So are most CEO's. Your point? Our idiot governor has been after teachers since he first took office. I don't know about you but I can't imagine wanting to become a teacher in the present climate. Who wants to face constant bashing from the Republicans?

After teachers or the union? How does the union justify using collective bargaining to create a monopoly for their health insurance that they own - so it can overcharge ~30% above fair market value - which means less textbooks, less teachers, less teacher compensation, more pay to play sports, less school building repairs, less technology....

Large school districts have even lost over a million dollars a school year in overpaying for health insurance...why? So the Union can get fat and make big donations to the Democrats?!?!

Christie to teachers' union leader: QUIT

Quote:
Giordano responded: "Life's not always fair and I'm sorry about that, but to suggest that we take money from taxpayers and give it to certain taxpayers to use to educate their kids outside of the public school just seems to me to be [wrong]."
But libs have no problem taking money from one group of taxpayers and giving it to a group of non-taxpayers for welfare, food stamps and an assortment of other benefits. What's the difference?
