Parents should sue for a refund from the schools that can't meet the standard.

Right- who needs accountability for teachers who just happen to be loyal union members. Also, the Liberal Lion, The Late Not So Great Ted Kennedy, would be rolling in his grave to hear his fellow libbies bashing legislation that he co-authored.

NCLB was designed to hold failing schools (mostly urban) accountable.

However, it enforced lots of stupidity on schools that were already meeting the cut and directed many schools to "teach towards the average" which hurt the more gifted students.

Fast forward and no shock....many states with large urban populations are now getting a "get out of jail free card" from Obama.

So, I fault Bush for a law that was draconian in scope and created a lot of fuss in areas that didn't have a problem....maybe even making things worse. I fault Obama for essentially protecting the parts of the country that refuse to take on the challenge of improving the schools and holding the students and their parents (who am I kidding? Parent) accountable.

You really can't improve some of the craphole schools without stepping on some toes. If a kid won't work and the parent doesn't care....what are you going to do? Oh yeah, blame someone else.

It was a stupid law. In fact EVERY federal law regarding education is a stupid law. Education should be left to the states and municipalities, and the feds should keep their noses out of it.

Where does Obama get the power to hand out waivers for federal laws? He is doing it with ObamaCare too, where the hell does it get the authority to do this? what's next, waivers to allow people to not pay taxes? Who needs congress? King Obama is handing out waivers.

Another Bush Disaster Coming To A Close, Obama Ending No Child Left Behind

bush disaster????you mean the senator who wrote it....ted kennedy

you mean the fact that it was meant to help students..that no child should just be pushed through school and graduate with out the ability to read????

we NEED a NATIONAL standard...we NEED the schools to actually TEACH the students...not just socially pass them

I do think there should be at least a NATIONAL STANDARD...if the staes wish to SURPASS the standard fine, but at least meet a national minimum
