That's not chump change and if Exxon is putting more than half a billion into it you can bet it's more than pie in the sky. It should also be noted there is potential dual benefits here becsue these farms could be combined with fosssil fule electric generation plants and be used to capture there CO2 output.
Yup, a tax write-off...

Look we all know oil consumption, energy consumption, etc., has NOTHING to do with global warming! Science is just another product of the 'liberal media', if you want 'real science' read the BIBLE! The strongest will survive and if its one of the 'weak' the Earth will perish like the weak should!

All of this 'fact-based' nonsense is just garbage spewed to us by the liberal-left!

Sincerely,
The Republican Party

Mayhem, death, collapse, ecological disasters and mega die off that few asteroids are capable of. Just learn a thing or two about European history. European peasants boarded America bound ships because "green powered" Europe was about to become a food desert and death trap. Only the age of fossils allowed some sort of natural comeback and ecological restoration both in Europe (especially) and in USA. Suffice to say that spotting a deer was a news publishable in local papers just 100+ years ago. Not even possums could survive human predators seeking a meager meal.

Green energy cannot drive global consumer capitalism, period. Green energy powered capitalism (or socialism) is oxymoron. It is against not only common sense but also thermodynamics and ecology. That's why it's important to use the remaining fossil energy not for more growth (so suicidal economic systems could live another decade) but for the transition to something that is not openly suicidal. But what does "Marxist" Obama preach? Yup, "radical leftists" is determined to restart economic growth machine (Using old banksters' tricks) and pave over the landscape with additional infrastructure & housing developments. Another "radical leftist" Al Gore suggested that cosmetic changes of personal consumption patterns can "cure" the system and prevent looming disasters.

Seriously, we are f..d. Lower social classes are submerged in the survival & status anxieties to think about the future. Drill baby drill, it's not a Princeton slogan, it's a slogan that resonates very well with anxious blue color and otherwise financially insecure crowds. Leisured upper classes, it seems, are pathologically sociopathic. After all, for the past 10,000 years only the meanest, greediest, the most selfish & power hungry humans could climb to the very top. And now we locked in the system that can survive a day only by undermining the future chances (not so distant future, unfortunately). And there is no will to find a way out.

On the other note, nature itself is not sustainable, it's more boom-bust (or death - regeneration) like. For example, if not for volcanoes and glaciers (wiping out countless species) soils would be barren. If not for bacterias that were "drowned" in their waste (oxygen) we would have nothing to breath. If not for formation of oil and gas deposits, carboniferous forests would not have killed itself. If not for asteroids and reptilian extinction, mammals would not dominate the Earth. Maybe they are correct about that Gaia thing and we (and all the pollution and mayhem) are just a part of the natural cycle that releases trapped carbon back in the environment. It could be that Mother Earth doesn't give a dime about hairless monkeys with big brains, it just "wants" carbon to be released into atmosphere to pave a way to another boom-bust cycle.

Sense is directly proportional to one's ability to read.

I do not remotely understand this argument. Power is power, regardless of the source. Why do people think it is more valid when it comes form a company you give $250/ month to vs from your roof you pay nothing for?

I am for the energy independence of the people. where we are not reliant on a company to do it for us. I can tell you going 10 days without power when Progress Energy lost service, sucked pretty bad... I wish I could have had the standards of the 19'th century when it happened.

There are some great technologies for power out there , The Tulip VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) with a cut in speed of 1.5m/s

solar panels work and can be produced cheaply if we got production up. Why not make power from the sun? Here in FL we have either sun or wind. Why would anyone care if we no longer require 5 billion tons of coal to power the plant? seems a great thing to me.
