You people love to argue about anything( right and left). My take is that was she even approached as to whether she'd like to have a ship named after her? Its an odd honor and maybe she'd have preferred something else. Maybe a park or a hospital wing or medical center or a school or something less to do with weapons. She'll probably get some other honors but I hope they remember the people actually killed along with her.
Remember them for what exactly?
This is the thing that kills me. We live, then we die. No one gives a damn about anyone after they're dead. Why would we make an effort to remember the people that died in that incident? For what? They're gone, and no amount of remembering will bring them back.
I've said it before in this thread and i'll keep saying it....Americans drive themselves crazy with memorials and commemorative events, coins, stamps, ship namings, bulding namings, freeways namings, etc, etc...
And for what, really? The dead don't know what's going on. Giffords isn't dead obviously, but she could probably care less about having something named after her. But now that the decision has been made or at least considered, what does it matter? There will be more ships built and if you don't like this naming, maybe the person you want a ship named after makes the next cut.
But damn, i can't for the life of me understand why people make a big whoop about what to name a ship. Hell, i'd just give them numbers if it was up to me. That way, this type of nonsense can be avoided.
I did a stint in the Army. Why does that matter? That doesn't make me special. Tens of millions have done the same thing in our nations history. Doesn't make my opinion any more or less valid.
The "USS Desert Detroiter" had my vote, but in the end, Gabby won.

So I assume you are consistent and against the 9/11 memorial, MLK holiday, etc etc. We choose to commemorate ideas, what people stood for, and died for. I don't know what Gabby stood for or died for, so this one is out of place. Not the only one, but this attemp to turn everyday people into heroes for some political agenda has gone too far.

LOL....anytime i'm arguing about some controversy, folks always try some kinda way to sneak that one in. I wonder why?
Terry Brain was a border patrol agent he's gotten nothing!! His parents haven't even received an apology!! He deserves something............
wonder way he wouldn't get a ship named after him.
I'm glad Gifford's gets a ship with her name on it, but many get shot and never receive recognition. Be even happier if this was heart felt from this adminstration.
If you're going to make a politically motivated tribute to someone you should TRY to get their name right.
The only suspects that should apologize are Obama and Holder. This is an impeachable offense! His family deserves justice.
