Social issues are overtaking politics....AGAIN! (Iraq, Obama, abortion, politicians)

I cannot believe that the American people are allowing social issues (abortion, contraception, religion, gay marriage, etc. etc. etc.) to take over the national political dialogue. Forget that American folk are out of work, forget that American folk can't pay their mortgages, forget that the prices of prescription medication has gone through the roof. Makes me sick that we're letting politicians bring up the "boogey-man" (remember 2004) again in attempts to secure themselves and their friends jobs.
I wish we could send a message. Candidates for office must run on FIXING OUR ECONOMY and nothing else. My fear is we're going to wind up with a president who doesn't have the ability to make our country move forward because during the election process he manipulated the common people by exploiting their fears and prejudices.
How can this be turned around before it's too late?
I guess when the First Amendment is being threatened (again), those dumb ole Americans have to uprise and get involved. Darn, Chief Obi thwarted once again. Well, as PettyPants has said so aptly, "We won't know what's in the bill until it's passed." Now we know. What other "social" nightmares await us, I wonder.
We already have a president who is fixing our economy. An economy which was obliterated by Dumbya Bush.
Religious/cultural/social issues are coming to the forefront because that is the only thing Republicans can run on to get votes.
Of course, since I'm a dye-in-the-wool social liberal anyway (pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, pro-birth control, atheist), my vote goes to Obama.
I disagree. An economy could always get better. And my vote doesn't AUTOMATICALLY go to ANYONE. I want to hear all ideas. However, I want those ideas to focus on a discussion of bettering the economy, which is what is most directly affecting me and my family. I feel like this issue is too difficult to tackle for this current crop of candidates but that IS the job. If a candidate is not the man to fix it, then the job of president might not be the right one for him. He needs to step aside, and NOT bring up extraneous, non-sensical issues that won't better the lives of any American.

Republicans cannot win unless they throw social issues, the only issues that count with the religious right, into the forefront. At least in their minds they can't win. The econmy is improving, Iraq has ended, Afgan. will be winding down soon, social issues is all repubs have.

....and they can't win on social issues either. Obama isn't really vulnerable there.
