"Free" contraception is a great deal cheaper than "free" birthing.

The Church's stand, as it has been for centuries, is about social control and enforcing religious views.

Then how about these Catholic institutions use my nonCatholic tax dollars that they accept to provide the coverage for the birth control mandate?

Feel better now?

Here's the part some of you don't seem to get. The debate we're having over birth control--some of you against insurance coverage, the "Personhood" legislation that's bans some forms of birth control and is being pushed in a half dozen states--those are EXTREME positions. Most people, including a big chunk of republican women, don't support you in this. Lots of people might be concerned about abortion, but they think being against contraception is crazy. By shifting the debate to contraception, you lose any credibility that you have, and the prolife debate ultimately loses too. Want to hand the election to the democrats on a silver platte, including a whole bunch of house and senate seats? Keep pushing wacky social conservative issues. R's can win on the economy, even if things are getting a little better. When we move to this crackpot crap we lose big.

They will not be vocal about it with each other after Mass but this is the undercurrent.

And isn't it about time Catholic women GROW A SPINE and BE vocal about it???

Don't THEY contribute $$$ to the church, too?

Have they been so beaten down that they are too weak to stand up to the church and say , "I use birth control, go suck an egg!"

The abortion issue has been won by conservatives. Liberals have retreated to contraception and women's rights in order to keep the appearance of division between conservatives and women's rights.

In this culture where conservatives think liberals are advancing their agenda - we need to highlight this and point it out. Because it is easy to miss the fact that conservatives are winning some battles.

Liberals will never admit this - and they can't afford to have this defeat and lose the ability to divide conservatives from women's issues - so they create the false issue of conservatives wanting to ban contraception. In effect, liberals have been pushed back to the next hill.
The battle they are winning beyond a doubt is proving their core hypocrisy, these people who allege they favor less government yet continue to fight to have (for the most part) a bunch of gray-haired old men in DC make moral/medical decisons for women that should be left to those women themselves.

Catholic Bishops vs. Obama Administration [Richard Latimer]
Quote:
Meanwhile, all hospitals, church-affiliated and secular, receive indirect federal and state subsidies through Medicare and Medicaid. They get paid by the government for treating people who otherwise would not be able to afford treatment, and that in turn provides a steady revenue stream to pay for the decidedly secular operations of the hospital. That revenue stream provides the money to pay wages and salaries and to purchase the ERISA medical and disability insurance plans for hospital employees, subject to federal Health & Human Services (HHS) Department regulations.
Quote:
It isn't only church-affiliated hospitals that receive state and federal tax money. The Bush administration granted a $19 million, five-year contract to the Catholic bishops in 2006 to manage programs for victims of human trafficking. The Church, abetted by its GOP Congressional stooges, is now attacking Obama on that issue too, based on alleged "religious discrimination," because he charged HHS with managing such grants based on a competitive bidding process open to secular agencies in competition with the Church. That partisan invective is being thrown at Obama despite the fact that during his first three years in office, more than $850 million in federal grants have gone to the Catholic Church, more than they received during the last three years of the Bush administration.

Ya, but if a religion is going to run a business they have to comply with laws governing business
...or do they want to be law-free as well as tax free.....?

Sound like a bunch of moochers who want everything for nothing,....what an ENTITLEMENT attitude !!!!
