Oh, I'm well aware of the process of incrementalism. In fact, I warn people about it here all the time.

However, until I see evidence of this happening elsewhere, I'll believe this is a minor, local problem with no implications for anybody else. And, yes, I know about the Chicago school. I knew about it a year ago when that story first broke, but again, it's just one school and not official policy in Chicago.

It makes no sense why you guys are trying to play as though this never happened. It is quite comical really.
What I read is that it is a state program for pre-k using USDA nutritional guidelines. Even the story you linked says it.

The reported incident revolves around state regulation that requires all lunches in pre-Kindergarten programs to meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines.

So, then you understand that the fed's are setting the rules and regulations?

Do you have information indicating that the "fed's" are requiring the state of N.C. to follow USDA nutritional guidelines for pre-k programs? Or are they doing it voluntarily in lieu of creating their own standards? I think all the information reported so far would indicate the later, that the state chose to make a regulation and chose to base it on USDA nutritional guidelines.

Well that does sound healthy. Now, with all due respect...So What?

The issue is not the healthiness or unhealthiness of whatever the school serves. The issue is with anyone in the school thinking they have the right or authority to in any way change or "correct" the lunch sent for a kid by that kids parents. Even if the school served the most perfectly appropriate and balanced meal, if Joey's mom sends in a bologna on white with a snickers bar & a coke, the school has no right to tell Joey he has to eat today's baked soy nuggets.

"This rule addresses the proposed meal requirements for school- aged children in § 210.10 and § 220.8 of the regulatory text. However, this proposed rule would retain the current meal requirements for children in preschool (ages 1–2 and 3–4) and infants pending changes to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)."

The last time the CACFP was amended was in 2004 by the Republican controlled Congress.

I'm not getting into the politics of this issue...I posted to the thread when it was in the health forums and I'm speaking specifically of the nutritional value of the food.

In the second story that was posted, a salami and cheese sandwich was sent from home. Salami is not part of a healthy lunch for a child, in my opinion.

You can debate the politics of it all you want and whether replacing the lunch was right or wrong, I could really give a flying fart. Have at it and cary on.
