A statement from Monning's office reads in part: "Mobile food vending poses a threat to student safety as well as student nutrition. Mobile vending near school campuses incentivizes students to leave school grounds, which increases students' exposure to off-campus hazards such as heavily trafficked streets."
So, here's the part that has food truck operators and fans worried. Banning mobile food trucks from operating within 1,500 feet of schools would basically put food trucks out of business byseverely limiting where they could operate. This map shows the effect AB 1678 would have in Sacramento if passed.
Appetizers: New assembly bill could wipe out food trucks

So now the students can walk even further away!

Oh, Kalifornia.

There is going to come a time where if you buy your kid a candy bar you will be arrested and fined.

Government telling children what they will eat, when they will eat it, and where.

Why doesn't goverment just put up electrified gates, walls with barbed wire on top and guard posts at all schools to make sure those little buggers don't break the law.

Why would I want my kids leaving school property to get food from a truck? If I don't like their lunch, I'll send them to school with one we make.

I actually agree with this. I don't want a bunch of idiots running around school grounds everyday, and kids leaving the school to attend their food trucks.

Someone needs to wipe horrible words like "incentivize" out of the English language.

I'd worry more about gangs and pedo teachers inside school grounds than food trucks and "heavily trafficked streets" off school grounds.

A generation that will never know what its like to live a life without the direct supervision of the state.
It's a bleak future.

What's stopping them from walking 1501 feet?

Leave it liberals to treat vending trucks like drug dealers.
