State officials contended the program promoted reverse-racism, and the law prohibits classes designed for a particular ethnic group or which “promote resentment toward a race of class of people.”

Ariz. Bill Would Fire Teachers for Bringing ‘Partisan’ Opinions Into the Classroom | TheBlaze.com

I think its a good idea, in light of the current level of indoctrination being seen in our public school these days, including the above referenced ethnic studies program. Be nice to see this type of thing across the country seeing as how we see indoctrination in public schools being reported on a daily basis. The recent case of the student who was threatened with suspension for writing an op-ed response in his school newspaper in which he argued against a piece that supported gay parental adoption comes to mind. The school was only accepting of one side of the political issue stating the boy was being a "bully." Perhaps, the schools should not be involved in teaching political issues or having students involve themselves in "faux" debates seeing as how they usually cannot seem to do so with neutrality. Let that wait for college.

Not sure how it could be monitored and assessed accurately. Maybe video tapes in classes and just the idea of the law in place would minimize most of this.

Somebody is having their leg pulled. Arizona SB1202 has nothing to do with this subject:

Praying, itself, is not politics. Now, the classroom teaching of why prayer should be allowed in the public classrooms would be a political/partisan issue that would also be covered by this Bill. You know, kind of like if the school's newspaper asked 2 students to present opinion pieces on the benefits of allowing classroom prayers recited aloud and then threatened to suspend the student who presented the opposing argument.

Yeah but isn't most of science 'partisan' to Conservatives? Fired for teaching evolution, fired for teaching health class (teaching healthy eating); fired for teaching about finite petroleum supply; fired for teaching birth control; fired for teaching about pollution, etc. etc.

No, this bill is idiotic... trying to disprove reality's liberal bias.

Seems to be a different Bill. Check out this link.

"Proposed Arizona partisan instruction law, based on sectarian prohibition law
Testimony was heard yesterday by the Arizona Legislature's Government Reform Committee on the proposed piece of legislation that prohibits partisan instruction in K-12 publically funded classrooms. Senator Lori Klein's proposed legislation, SB 1202, is based on the current Arizona law, A.R.S. 15-535, that prohibits sectarian instruction in publically funded schools."

Nobody's leg is being pulled. This explains how this new Bill is being tagged onto or replacing the other, unrelated one.

“Strike Everything” amendments basically “gut” existing bills, regardless of topic, and insert new language on often unrelated topics or areas of state government."

Legislative Strikers Alert | Arizona Education Network

There are just way too many stories on this Bill that it couldn't be an "onion." It is real and sorely-needed.

Ok, assuming that it is real, how is it any different from censorship? Or, prior restraint of free speech?

And, for those of y'all who think censorship would be a fine idea, should this guy be allowed to teach in Arizona?

I guess teachers in Arizona who say Happy Easter will be fired and the OP will support this.

We already have censorship in the public schools. Did you not read the original post reference for one example? This would just make sure its applied evenly in the schools, where children are captive audiences.

Me too. Enough of this far left/right brain washing at schools. Teach your subject people, and if your subject is politics keep an open mind.
